At one time he would have thought nothing of fighting off villains while in a cable car, jumping a bridge in a speed boat, or killing enemies with his bare hands.

But age has clearly caught up with this particular James Bond - and his nemesis.

After kneeling to admire his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Sir Roger Moore needed a little help to stand up.

Considering the actor celebrates his 80th birthday tomorrow, it's impressive that he managed to bend down in the first place.

Starring role: Richard Kiel made a special appearance to help honour his former co-star

Richard Kiel, who played Bond's nemesis Jaws in Moonraker, was on hand to watch the ceremony - in a wheelchair. Kiel, who has the hormonal condition acromegaly, used to stand at over seven feet tall - but a car accident in 1992 left him with a severe head injury that affected his balance, and he now uses a scooter or wheelchair.

Sir Roger said the ceremony this week was "a big thrill". He is the second Bond to be honoured with a star, after Pierce Brosnan.

"I've had a love affair with Hollywood for many, many years," he said. "This is like being back for the first time again."

The actor, whose other famous roles include Simon Templar in The Saint TV series, was accompanied his fourth wife Kristina, daughter Deborah and sons Geoffrey and Christian.

Also present was actor Richard Kiel, who played Sir Roger's nemesis Jaws in two of his seven Bond films, The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

The British actor paid homage to the number of women he kissed on-screen adapting Ian Fleming's leading man.

"Sadly, I had to retire from the Bond films," Moore said. "The girls were getting younger or I was just getting too old."

Shared Bond: Roger Moore with Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in Moonraker

Moore has done some acting in film and television since leaving the Bond franchise.

He has raised funds for UNICEF in underdeveloped countries and received a Commander of the British Empire award from the British government in 1999.

He also was awarded a knighthood in 2003 for his work with UNICEF.

Moore's star sits in front of 7007 Hollywood Boulevard, an ice cream parlor that boasts it is the birthplace of the hot fudge sundae.

Meanwhile, Moore's planned autobiography, whose working title is "My Word is my Bond", will tell his real life story.

"Roger has told me he won't get out of bed to write for less than one million," his agent Lesley Pollinger said. Moore said in a statement that he would like to write "a warm, amusing, and maybe even slightly emotional volume".

Gareth Owen, the actor's personal assistant, who will be ghost-writing the book.

"He finally gave in to his wife and daughter who told him to tell the story," Owen told Reuters by telephone, "He is a great raconteur."

"He wants to do it because he has reached his 80th year and feels it is time he reflected on life."

His book is expected to be published next year.
