Uma Thurman startled onlookers at the Swarovski Fashion Rocks event with an outfit which left little to the imagination.

The actress arrived on the red carpet in a couture Valentino gown which was virtually see-through.

Thurman's daring dress is a look not often associated with her.

The 37-year-old mother-of-two, who was co-hosting the star-studded charity event, rarely makes a fashion faux pas on the red carpet.

Joss Stone

Pretty in pink Joss Stone opts for a skin-tight number

Joss Stone, 20, got the thumbs down from fashion observers for her choice of outfit on the red carpet.

While everyone else went for old-style glamour, she turned up in a tight pink Calvin Klein dress and clumpy white shoes.

And she was booed by the crowd when she would not stop to sign autographs.

Kate Moss was among the other A-listers to support the event. Kate wore an exquisite flapper dress, embroidered with 20,000 precision-cut crystals from Swarovski.

Kate's dress - estimated to cost £40,000 - is a copy of one she wore on her first date with Johnny Depp in 1994 and will be auctioned off by Topshop on eBay from this morning with proceeds going to the Prince's Trust.

It was made by Topshop, for whom Moss has designed her own clothes range. The 33-year-old model arrived with Topshop's boss Sir Philip Green.

She said: "When I was invited by Swarovski to create a dress with Topshop to wear tonight, this 1920s flapper style immediately came to mind.

"It was like a dream to use such an amazing amount of Swarovski crystal.

"I'm honoured to have the opportunity to raise funds for the Prince's Trust, as it's a great cause. Plus, I get to wear my own amazing couture dress, even if it's just for the night."

Lily Allen at Fashion Rocks

Lily Allen dazzles in her Chanel number

Lily Allen, who more usually teams her ball gowns with trainers, accessorised her Chanel gown with bling on her bracelet, shoes and ring.

Throughout the night, designers and rock and pop acts teamed up to give individual catwalk shows backed by live music.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall attended the first Fashion Rocks in London in 2003, but last night Princess Beatrice represented the family, wearing a Marchesa gown - studded with crystals, of course.

Whitney Houston was the surprise guest at the show.

Making a rare UK public appearance, she walked on stage at the finale to a standing ovation, and in a reference to her most famous song she told the audience: "I will always love you - very much."

Houston was there to make a speech about the good work done by the Prince's Trust.

Topshop owner Philip Green arrived with Kate Moss, but left with soprano Katherine Jenkins

The Royal Family was represented by Princess Beatrice, who wore a pale embroidered gown by Marchesa. She said: "Fashion is very important to me and this is one of my favourite dresses.

"This event is perfect for people to dress up and see amazing rock stars but also to raise money for the Prince's Trust."

The Princess recently appeared on the catwalk at a charity fashion show alongside her mother, Sarah Ferguson.

Event host Uma Thurman also went for the see-through option in a black dress covered in crystals.

A dreamy girl, shades of Aphrodite.

Uma Thurman is beautiful! It's time the young women in the world see what a real woman's looks like. She is a modern day Helen of Troy.

Great pics! Courtney Love looking thin. Princess Beatrice bursting out of that awful dress.
Lisa Snowdon looking very shifty and those gold shoes - ugh!

- Cj, London

Too bad Joss Stone hates shoes. Some attractive ones would have made her outfit.

- Anon, GA, USA

Colleen always looks great. Did the invitation say "Bad Taste Party" on all the other ones?

- Charlie, London

All rather sad and pathetic, actually. These vacant events get more like butchers shop windows each day, lots of cold meat on display.

- Chris, London

Lily Alen in my opinion only looked half decent. What's happening to fashion these days, bring back the ladies of the golden era when women looked like women and not something that has been pulled in off of the red light district. Anna Wintour give these girls some tips please!

- Ashley Smithson, London

Finally, a runway show I can get interested in!

Only one who looked great was Joss Stone - Truly a classy lady. If only Uma realized how ridiculous she looked. Sort of sad.

- Larue Boenig, Henderson, NV

Outstanding. A welcome change of pace from pompous fools and overdressed manikins.

"The 37-year-old mother-of-two...rarely makes a fashion faux pas on the red carpet."

I do not agree with your comments on Uma Thurman. She is gorgeous, elegant and she is sexy. Chosing to wear the see-through dress from Valentino shows she is self confident.

37, mother of two and beautiful real breasts...Way to go Uma!

- Tom Beranger, Los Angeles, USA

I like Uma's dress. Perhaps she could have done a better job concealing the details of her breasts, but from the photos, the rest is tantalizing without actually revealing. Does she have a nude piece on underneath.

Would I be daring enough? No. But I love the lines and the flow and she's a celebrity. She's modeling a Haute Couture design that the rest of us aren't expected to wear. Simply enjoy the spectacle. She's stunning and you'll never see the dress again, most likely.

- Allison, Boston, MA

She looks great.
No way it was a "fashion faux pas". Maybe the rest of the ladies pictured here.
