Troubled Amy Winehouse nominated for six Grammy awards

Updated 22:25pm on 8 Dec 2007

Despite her painfully public battle with drugs, singer Amy Winehouse's talent was in the spotlight last night as it was announced she was nominated for six Grammy Awards.

The troubled singer received nominations in the categories of best new artist, record and song of the year for Rehab, pop vocal album, and album of the year for Back to Black.

Last night Winehouse said in statement: "I'm honoured to have my music recognised with these nominations - this is a true validation from people I respect and admire."

Amy's troubles continue as she appeared in public with white powder up her nose

The 24-year-old Londoner has cancelled all concerts and other public appearances for the remainder of 2007 after her doctor advised complete rest.

She was reportedly treated in rehab earlier this year and seems to have taken a turn for the worse since her separation from husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is in jail awaiting trial on assault and perjury charges.

She has been seen in floods of tears after visiting Fielder-Civil in London's Pentonville Prison.

The Grammy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on February 10 where she will battle it out against artists such as Beyonce, whose song Irreplaceable is also in the running for record of the year.

Sir Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full is up for best pop vocal album.

Kanye West has received eight nominations

Rapper Kanye West is the only star with more nods than Winehouse as the 50th annual Grammy nominations were announced.

West has a total of eight nominations from his latest album Graduation, which sold nearly 1 million copies in its first week.

The rapper has also had a difficult year and been mourning the death of his mother last month, following a plastic surgery procedure.

Five acts received five nominations each - rock band the Foo Fighters, rapper Jay-Z, hip-hop producer Timbaland, pop singer Justin Timberlake, and R&B singer T-Pain.
