It was a night to remember for thousands of Led Zeppelin fans. But sadly for supermodel Naomi Campbell it was for all the wrong reasons.

The 37-year-old was left shaken after an over-zealous fan tried to rip the VIP security pass from around her neck after the one-off reunion gig at the O2 Arena on Monday evening.

An eyewitness said: "This guy, who looked a bit drunk, ran up alongside Naomi and tried to lift the passes from around her neck but it got tangled in her scarf and hair.

Somone isn't happy!: Naomi Campbell's assistant and security come to her aid after she's accosted by a fan for her pass

"He yanked the pass quite forcefully which dragged her down, half throttling her, before security stepped in."

"She was screaming 'He's got the pass' but it sounded as if she was being choked. The guy eventually got the pass and ran off. It all happened so quickly. Naomi looked very shaken."

Photographer Greg Brennan added: "People were doing anything to get their hands on one of those tickets. People were fighting all over the place."

Last night Miss Campbell's publicists tried to play down the incident, claiming the man had been a fan who asked for the pass as "memorabilia".

She said: "A fan came and asked Naomi for her pass at the end of the night, and the pass got caught in her hair as she was taking it off."

But Mr Brennan tells us: "That's not how it happened at all. She didn't give the pass voluntarily. I saw the guy sneaking up behind her, and grabbing the pass."

It topped off a dismal night for the model. Earlier in the evening, Miss Campbell had her BlackBerry phone, containing all her celebrity friends' personal contacts, stolen from her handbag.

A spokesman for the O2 Arena said: "Our security is excellent, and we didn't receive any complaints about the incident. Naomi Campbell did report that she had lost her phone, but she couldn't even remember whether she brought it with her or not."

According to one version of events, her bag, containing two mobile phones, was completely stolen.

She reportedly told one US gossip columnist on the night: "Someone stole my handbag. It had two phones in it."

The official version, from 37-year-old Naomi's publicity company (who, it must be noted, also publicised the concert) was that she simply had her Blackberry phone stolen during the gig, or that perhaps she just mislaid it.

The unfortunate experience mired what was otherwise an incredible comeback night for Led Zeppelin.

The main attraction: Led Zeppelin by all accounts rocked hard at the O2 concert

And whether they had just turned up to pick up a few tips, or were there to wish their old rivals well, representatives from the biggest bands through the ages came in their droves.

The Rolling Stones's Mick Jagger (and former Stones guitarist Bill Wyman), former Beatle Paul McCartney, U2's The Edge, Queen's Roger Taylor, Mike Rutherford from Genesis, Mick Jones from Foreigner, Bob Geldof from Boomtown Rats were all among the throng.

Then there were the former rockers' former wives - Jagger's ex Jerry Hall and Elvis's former wife Priscilla Presley for example.

And even among their number were former rocker's new girlfriends - though Paul McCartney made enormous efforts not to be photographed alongside the US actress Rosanna Arquette, who he has been dating since the summer and was also at the concert.

Shoulder to cry on: Naomi didn't let the theft of her mobile upset her too much when she met old pal Kate Moss backstage

After a raft of gleaming reviews yesterday - not least in this paper - the band who had come together for the first time in 19 years are poised to go back on the road.

And though their spokesmen remained tight-lipped on that prospect yesterday, a band insider said "It went so well last night. The band would be insane not to capitalise on that success."

Well boo flippin' hoo. How did she get a ticket in the first place? Not via the oversubscribed public lottery it seems but via her publicity company - hardly very fair. She will turn up to the opening of an envelope if there's some publicity in it meanwhile she and her ilk take places that could otherwise go to real fans.

'ageing model, Niaomi' - honestly what a bitchy comment. Niaomi may be 37 but she looks 30!

Why didn't she give him the right hook that she's so famous for handing out to women?
