Lily Allen's boyfriend Ed Simons comforts her after baby heartbreak

Updated 11:58am on 24 Jan 2008

Lily Allen is bravely rebuilding her life - thanks to the support of her boyfriend Ed Simons.

The British performer suffered a miscarriage last week after returning home from a romantic break in the Maldives with boyfriend Ed. She was four months pregnant.

Lily, 22, and Ed, 37, attempted to distract themselves with a shopping trip around London's Notting Hill.

It was the first time Lily had been seen since news of her loss came to light.

Lily and musician boyfriend Ed Simons from band The Chemical Brothers went shopping in London together as they emerged following the heartbreaking news that Lily had lost their unborn child

During the shopping trip, the couple spent several hundred pounds at upmarket French store Aimé, which sells a range of Parisien fashion and homewares.

They then drove their BMW 1 series to a car showroom at London's Park Lane BMW Centre.

Retail therapy: The singer reportedly paid more than £35,000 on a BMW Convertible 325i M-Sport Auto

Lilly spent two hours quietly looking at the showroom with Ed.

She reportedly paid £35,955 on a MBW Convertible 325i M-Sport Auto.

Despite the tragedy, Lily plans to press on plans to start filming the pilot for her new TV show.

She will record BBC3's Lily Allen And Friends this week, and the show will be screened next month.

The audience will be composed of 'friends', and also celebrity friends and new bands from her page on social networking website MySpace.

Support: Lily and Ed put on a brave face during a shopping trip at French store Aimé

A TV insider said: "She's incredibly low at the moment, but doesn't want to let her fans down.

"It will be a very upbeat night so in a way it's the tonic she needs."

Allen and Simons met in September after a Chemical Brothers gig in Trafalgar Square and announced they were expecting a baby in December.

Allen's second album is due out later this year.

Such a common occurence in the early stages of pregnancy. I can't believe her doctor didn't tell her not to fly until at least 4 months. The radiation the plane emits during the flight can cause a miscarriage in the early stages of developement. Sad story, wish them both all the best for the future.

Karen, whilst I agree that nature has decreed this was not meant to be, how you can think this young girl will ever view this event as positive as "her career was doing well" is beyond me? This baby was wanted, but was lost, that is heartbreaking.

Horrible news, poor kid.

Devastated, tearful, talented young girl, hopefully the press won't think tally ho and be in her face 24/7 like they are with Britney and Amy, and give her and her partner some space to come to terms with their loss.

That said they'd have her dad to deal with so hopefully she'll be left in peace.

I don't want to sound heartless, but Lily will get over this and move on. In fact, seeing that she only knew the father for a very short time, and her career is doing well, it may actually be for the best. She is young and relatively healthy. It was not meant to be that's all.

I am sure that you are sympathetic towards Lily, Bleach, but comments like "she needs to slow down" are not helpful. As someone who has had 3 miscarriages I can safely say that it doesn't matter how fast or slow you live life when you are pregnant as to the outcome. In most cases it is never the mother's fault and a miscarriage happens because there is something wrong with the embryo and it is the body's way of saying it will not survive. By 16 weeks you feel that you are over the safe period and are excited about being pregnant. I feel devasted for Lily.

She looked stressed - I was worried by previous pictures of her - when she was pregnant.

She needs to slow down or wait until she is a little older and maybe more settled to have children.

Take it easy.
