Halle Berry and Cate Blanchett show off their baby bumps

Updated 12:14pm on 29 Jan 2008

These Oscar-winners may both be heavily pregnant but that doesn't stop them being stylish.

Curly-haired Halle Berry, 42, went for casual chic while Cate Blanchett, 38, went for full-blown goddess glamour as she attended a red-carpet event.

Blanchett, who won Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her part in The Aviator, is expecting her third child but none the less pitched up to the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

She appeared elegantly dressed in a Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière strapless gown with multi-colored embroidery and Roger Vivier heels.

Halle Berry, meanwhile, teamed her skin tight dress with strings of gold chains when she met a friend for lunch in Universal City, Los Angeles.

Earlier this week, she was seen out in blue jeans and a cream tight-fitting top - carrying the much sought-after Smythson Nancy bag - proving herself to be the ultimate yummy-mummy-to-be as she was shielded from the rain by her bodyguard.

She even managed to wear high heels despite her extra weight.

The ever-expanding actress is expected to give birth in March.

Berry, who won Best Actress Oscar for Monster's Ball in 2001, has waited quite a while to play her most important role - as a mother - and is busy preparing for the birth of her first child with her partner, model Gabriel Aubry, 32.

However, she is still keeping one eye out for other roles and revealed that she is desperate to work with fellow Oscar-winner Denzel Washington but is determined to wait until she's offered the perfect script.

Berry, who won her Oscar at the same ceremony Washington picked up his Best Actor prize for Training Day, is convinced the pair will team up for a film in the future.

She said: "I still want to work with Denzel Washington. I'm hoping that one day the right script will come along and Denzel will give me a call."

The actress showed off her bump - and her new hairstyle - as a companion sheltered her from rain in LA
