Actress America Ferrera appears to be having an Ugly Betty day, as she ditched the red-carpet glamour for a distinctly dowdy look for lunch with friends in Beverly Hills.

America, appears to have taken inspiration from her style-challenged character, Betty Suarez, her character in the hit show, for her luncheon dress-code.

Casual Betty: Actress America Ferrera, seen in Beverly Hills yesterday, looked a lot like her Ugly Betty character as she stepped out for lunch with friends

The morning after: America's red-carpet glow has diminished since her appearance at the SAG awards last weekend

Although Betty's usual attire is somewhat more colourful, America was seen out and about dressed down in jeans, and a huge black Betty-style poncho for the rendezvous with friends in West Hollywood.

The stylish about-turn came just 24 hours after her winning red-carpet look which she unveiled at the Screen Actors Guild awards.

Where, in stark contrast to her casual look, America looked the picture of elegance in a muted grey one-shouldered antique lace gown, finished with an antique brooch at her shoulder, and a chic sideswept up-do.

Dressed down: But who can blame her after an evening on the red carpet, for swapping her heels and frock for something more comfortable

However, following a night posing for photos and giving interviews on the red carpet, who can blame the star for swapping her heels, and body-skimming dress for something a little more comfortable.

America has revealed a political streak of late. She has been seen on the picket lines for the writer's strike, and has thrown her weight behind HIllary Clinton's presidential campaign, appearing at a rally with the former First Lady.

In a recently released statement she said: "I look forward to rallying young people to use their voices and get involved.

"I believe that Hillary Clinton can turn this country around."

She's a damn sight better looking au-natural than most other Hollywood actresses without their make-up on!

- Angela, Sussex

She looks just as good with or without make up.

- Debbie, London, England

What? She just doesn't have any make up on. Good grief. Give her a break

- James, London

Oh come off it. She looks like a normal girl going out for breakfast after a big night. The girl is an actress, why can't we judge her on how well she plays a part, rather than what she looks like in her day to day life?

- Alex, London

I think America looks terrific both ways, dressed up and dressed down.

- Joy, Memphis TN - USA
