Kelly and Kylie shine at the Elle Awards

Updated 16:15pm on 14 Feb 2008

Kelly Brook and Kylie Minogue stole the show at one of the most important dates in the British fashion diary.

The Strictly Come Dancing star and the Aussie singer shone on the red carpet at the Elle Style Awards in gorgeous gowns.

Simply gorgeous: Kylie and Kelly took first place in the style stakes at the Elle Style Awards in London last night. The pair both opted for fashionable full length Grecian style gowns

It was the first public appearance for Strictly Come Dancing star Kelly following the death of her father Kenneth last year, which prompted her withdrawal from the dance show.

And a radiant looking Kelly looked stunning in a full length Grecian style gown in vibrant turquoise.

Meanwhile queen of reinvention Kylie showed off another hairstyle, this time a page boy style bob, as she too opted for a Grecian gown in a classic olive green.

Dizzy heights: Comedian David Walliams towers over petite Australian singer Kylie

Voted woman of the year, Kylie posed with pal David Walliams, who recently admitted he would love to get together with the Australian pop star.

He said: "She's gorgeous and she's got my number if she wants to get together for a laugh."

The ceremony, which is billed as the "unofficial fashion Oscars", saw a number of glamorous British celebrities trying to outdo each other in the fashion stakes.

Pixie and Peaches Geldolf

Sister act: Pixie Geldof wears a low-slung top and netball-style skirt while Peaches sticks to classic black

The Geldof girls arrived together and Pixie Geldof, who has never been known for dressing conservatively, showed off her individual sense of style.

The 17-year-old teamed a cream mini tennis-skirt with black patent stacked heels and black ankle socks.

The look was completed with a rose corsage, over-sized black bag and a peroxide blonde crop, just like her mother Paula Yates.

Sister Peaches, 18, sported an almost-gothic look with paler than pale skin, a jewelled black dress and ripped tights.

Pixie said: "I've got my own personal style and I don't borrow clothes from Peaches. We're different sizes anyway."

Sir Bob's second daughter has become something of a fashion icon to teenagers, and with her elder sister Peaches has become a mainstay of London's fashion scene.

Kylie Minogue picked up a Woman of the Year award for her fantastic outfits and brave battle against breast cancer.

Holly Willoughby

Holly Willoughby wears on-trend purple satin

She paraded her new blonde bob and wore an olive green Grecian dress - in a similar style to the purple and gold chiffon she wore last month which won her a whole host of new admirers.

Keira Knightley and Kate Hudson brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the red carpet at the distinctly unglamorous Westway sports centre in Westbourne Grove, London.

Keira wore a classic little black dress - a more toned-down look to the layered white gown she wore to the Baftas.

And although she missed out at the Baftas and the Golden Globes, she finally won a Best Actress gong for her role in the war epic Atonement.

Dancing on Ice host Holly Willoughby also drew attention on the red carpet by sticking to the style she knows best.

Holly, who has drawn attention, and some criticism, from viewers with her plunging necklines on the family show, wore a tight-fitting lingerie-style top, held up by the smallest of straps.

Kate Hudson with Stella McCartney, and model Daisy Lowe

Lily Allen and Kate Nash seem to have raided their mums' wardrobe for these outfits

Singer Lily Allen wore a 60s-inspired print dress, while her protege Kate Nash, who has been applauded for her taste in clothes, also wore a vintage-inspired outfit.

Fashion icon sisters model Jodie Kidd and make-up guru Jemma made an appearance along with ever-stylish T4 presenters Alexa Chung and Alex Zane, designer Stella McCartney, model Pearl Lowe and actor James McAvoy - who picked up the best male actor gong.

Singer Roisin Murphy performed at the ceremony - the first ever musical accompaniment at the awards, which recognise the world's best from the worlds of fashion, film, television and music.

I burst out laughing when I saw the pictures of the Geldof sisters, they really are a gruesome sight but they did give me a laugh, although quite what either one of them has to do with 'style' completely escapes me.

Some real frightening stuff there. Both the Geldofs should find an alternative career to being a famous person's offspring. They are either not stylish or not photogenic. I thought Pixie was Vivienne Westwood at first. And am I the only person who is fed up of the over-exposure of Kelly Brook and Kylie?

Good grief Pixie Geldof has the body of an old woman. I am old enough to be a grandmother and my boobs are in far better shape than hers - and no surgery in sight. Also the pair of them hardly look as though they are dressed to go to a style awards evening. They desperately need styling themselves. The fact that they are only children does not alter the fact that their dress sense is atrocious
