Breakdancing Cruz Beckham, three, shows Mum how to Spice up the show

Updated 23:42pm on 22 Feb 2008

His parents know a thing or two about playing up to the cameras. And so, it seems, does David and Victoria Beckham's three-year-old son.

At the Spice Girls show in New York on Monday, Cruz broke into an impromptu breakdance routine.

The group had taken their children up on stage during the song Mama. Midway through, Cruz started body popping to the music.

As his movements became increasingly energetic, cheers went up from the audience.

Then, with all eyes on him, he performed a series of front rolls across the stage and spun round on his head.

The routine ended with him powering himself around like a plane rotor on the floor as his mother looked on astonished.

Unlike Cruz, his brothers Brooklyn and Romeo did not appear so comfortable on stage.

They were joined by Melanie Brown's daughter Angel Iris, ten months, Geri Halliwell's 19-month-old daughter Bluebell Madonna and Emma Bunton's son Beau, six months.

In the face of dwindling audiences, cancelled shows and furious rifts, the Spice Girls have taken to dragging their children up on stage in a rather laboured show of unity.

The children had all been watching their mothers perform from the front-row when they were pulled up in front of the crowd in New York.

Not wanting to be outdone by Mrs Beckham, Geri Halliwell brought up 19-month-old Bluebell Madonna.

Even six-month-old Beau, daughter of Emma Bunton, did not escape being hauled up while the girls cavorted on stage dressed in figure hugging, sparkling Roberto Cavalli outfits.

Melanie Brown seemed particularly impressed with Cruz's spontaneous performance, and stopped singing to laugh out aloud.

However, while his mother looked on so proudly, David Beckham could not be there to see his son's moment in the spotlight as he was hundred of miles away in Hawaii with football team LA Galaxy.

The children were soon out of sight when the show finished leaving Miss Halliwell free to make the most of a night on the town without little Bluebell.

The 35-year-old was seen clinging to the arm of one of her backing dancers as she arrived at New York's trendy Butter Club.

The tour, it was recently announced, is about to come to a rather-too abrupt end.

When the group announced they were reforming last June, shows were scheduled for five continents, although the tour appears to have run out of steam after just two.

There were reports that nearly half of the seats in the Mandalay Arena were empty when the band took to the stage for their comeback show in Las Vegas in December.

In a further disappointment, their new single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) failed to make it into the top ten.

Swansong: The Spice Girls are enjoying the final dates of their tour which is due to end on February 26

The band blamed family commitments for their decision to cancel dates in Sydney Beijing, Cape Town and Buenos Aires although rumours of in-fighting are thought to be behind the move.

The last show will now be in Toronto on February 26th.

In civilised quarters, most parents would tell their child to stop rolling around on the floor. As these are the Beckhams we're talking about, it's encouraged as "break dancing".

If your child enjoys dancing and having fun, which mother would not encourage it? He's only 2, turning 3 at the time, so if I were a mother, and I knew my son wouldn't mind playing around and having fun like that, I'd encourage him with no intentions to "outshine" other children and their mothers. It's just ridiculous how everything Victoria does is scrutinised, even when it's not her fault or her intentions.

Once again Posh is trying so hard to always outshine the other girls by getting her son Cruz involved. No need Posh you are there already. Cruz is so cute though. He's just made history for himself, career wise, whatever it turns out to be.

There is no such thing such as "chav" in America (or pigeon holeing like we do here!) as wearing baseball caps is an accepted fashion!

God that looks freaky, he looks like something out of a circus show. Looking forward to the end of this untalented group on their ego trip. Perhaps they'll now realise they're grown women, not girls and stop the play acting.

Breakdancing? The kid looks like he is doing rolly pollies! - I think that's the technical term...
