Since marrying Michael Douglas over seven years ago, Catherine Zeta-Jones has rarely been seen in her native Wales.

Yesterday, however, the former Darling Buds of May actress took time out of her busy LA schedule to return to her roots.

Catherine, 38, flew to Wales to pay tribute to her paternal grandmother Zeta, who was celebrating her 91st birthday in Swansea with her family.

She was not accompanied by her film star husband Michael Douglas, 62, or their two children Dylan, seven, and Carys, four.

The rest of the family are thought to have remained at their home in Bermuda.

As befits an Oscar-winning actress, Catherine oozed glamour as she flew back to her humble roots, dressed in head to toe in black leather and high heeled shoes.

She arrived at Swansea's Fairwood Airport in the early hours of Thursday morning on a private jet.

Catherine was met by her businessman father David 'Dai' Jones and later headed to see her grandmother at her home in Ravenhill, Swansea, with her mother Pat.

Namesake: The star left the Hollywood glitz behind for a few days to spend time with her paternal grandmother, whose full name is Zeta Jones

The two then spent around an hour with her grandmother.

Famously, 38-year-old Catherine took her stage name Zeta from her grandmother, who got the unusual name from a boat her great-grandfather once sailed in.
