From the Oscars to the court room: Madonna reports for jury service

Updated 19:30pm on 27 Feb 2008

What a difference a day makes.

In the space of 12 hours, Madonna went from partying with fellow A-listers at her Oscars party to waiting around in boredom in a jurors' room.

After only a couple of hours sleep, an exhausted Madonna arrived at the Beverly Hills courtroom for jury service and spent four hours waiting to hear if she would be called for the jury.

Shattered: A tired Madonna arrives at Beverly Hills courthouse on Monday for jury service after only three hours sleep

Madonna's spell in the jurors' room would have been a humbling experience for the singer, who is not used to being kept waiting.

Despite her hard night partying, Madonna arrived at 9am dressed down in a Juicy Couture velour tracksuit top and knee-length shorts.

Obviously exhausted and bit worse for wear after her party hosting duties, Madonna kept on her sunglasses as her bag was searched by security and she was given a red juror's badge to wear.

Caffeine fix: An exhausted Madonna relied on huge cups of coffee to keep her going after her hard night partying

During her four hour wait in the jurors' room, Madonna sipped on a large cup of coffee to keep her awake and was no doubt catching up on her Oscars party gossip on a series of text messages on her mobile phone.

A tired Madonna was overheard saying "I got three hours sleep last night".

Following her lunch break, Madonna surprised her fellow potential jurors when she arrived back at the courtroom in a complete change of outfit - a smarter combination of black trousers and jacket with white trainers.

As well as her wardrobe change, a clearly flagging Madonna clutched another large cup of coffee to help her stay alert.

After only an hour back at the courthouse, Madonna was relieved to be excused from jury service so she could finally get some sleep.

Four hour wait: Madonna spent four hours at the Beverly Hills courthouse waiting to hear if she would be called as a juror

A spokeswoman said: "She wasn't picked to be on a jury and has been officially dismissed.

"There was only one jury panel picked this morning, for a DUI (driving under the influence) case, and she wasn't on it.

"That's her done with jury service. She won't be called back for the rest of the year."

After the Academy Awards on Sunday, Madonna and fellow Kabbalah follower Demi Moore co-hosted a party at the singer's manager Guy Oseary's Los Angeles mansion.

Madonna and Demi decided to host their own Oscars bash after Vanity Fair cancelled their annual party several weeks ago.

As well sipping from an Absinthe fountain, guests were given Kabbalah bracelets and feasted on a lavish spread of macrobiotic (wheat and dairy free) food, including steamed seabass specially flown in from London.

Modest Madonna demanded the DJ played an array of her hit songs and rarely left the dancefloor.

The party was so successful, Sir Elton John and his 'husband' David Furnish went to Madonna's party after their own one finished.

Among the guests at Madonna and Demi's bash, were Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Cameron Diaz, Forest Whitaker, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Orlando Bloom and Wesley Snipes.
