In a curly brown wig and sporting a handlebar moustache, Justin Timberlake looks more like a seventies porn star than the golden-boy of pop in his new film.

Pictured on the set of The Love Guru, the singer who is usually the epitome of cool, resembles a character from 1970s-set film Boogie Nights more than a superstar who counts Timbaland and Christina Aguilera as close friends.

In the comedy, which also stars Mike Meyers and Jessica Alba, Justin plays athlete Jacques Grande, who steals the wife of a star hockey player.

Meyers plays a love guru called Pitka - an American raised outside of his country by gurus - who returns to the States in order to break into the self-help business.

Justin's look for the character, which includes tight pants and seventies-style tracksuit tops, is a million miles away from that of his last role in the film Alpha Dog.

The singer was covered in tattoos to play a street-wise delinquent in the 2006 drama.

Apart from adding another acting role to his impressive cv, Justin is continuing with a successful music career and will be inducting Madonna into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month.

The pair collaborated on several songs for the queen of pop's upcoming album and she reportedly sang "Happy Birthday" to him last month when he turned 27

The mum-of-two surprised him on the set of the video to go with his new single 4 Minutes to Save the World.

Madonna also worked with Timbaland on her forthcoming album called Hard Candy.

The 49-year-old has also enlisted the help of producer Pharrell Williams the help create her latest offering which will be her last for Warner Bros. Records.

The Love Guru will open in UK cinemas in July.
