Troubled DJ Andy Kershaw was seen for the first time yesterday after being ordered to leave the Isle of Man and return to the custody of his mother Eileen, 73, in Manchester, England.

The DJ turned stalker, who looked happy and gave the thumbs up on his return to England, narrowly avoided jail after he breached a restraining order against his ex-partner, Juliette Banner, just three days after he was released from jail.

The police arrested him in a pub on the Sunday after his release, and held him in custody until his court appearance on Tuesday.

Kershaw, 48, escaped with a six-month sentence suspended for two years on condition he leave the island to get his life in order.

Back home: A rumpled-looking Andy Kershaw gives the thumbs up sign as he returns to Manchester yesterday after being ordered to leave the Isle of Man by a judge

Kershaw was seen out in Manchester looking rumpled and dishevelled days after Isle of Man High Bailiff Michael Moyle took pity on him and spared him another custodial sentence.

Upon passing sentence, the judge said: "You cut a miserable and pathetic figure.

"I would encourage you to look at yourself long and hard. You must be breaking the heart of your mother.

"On the clear understanding you will leave the Isle of Man forthwith, I am prepared to give you one final chance."

Kershaw's return to the dock came after an alcohol-fuelled "emotional meltdown" which left his children sobbing and hysterical, and saw him arrested.

The BBC presenter had vowed to get his life back on track after being released from prison two days earlier and planned to host a birthday party for his daughter Dolly's ninth birthday.

But she and her brother, ten-year-old Sonny, were left distraught when Kershaw instead embarked on a two-day drinking spree and brought the children's party to a grinding halt four hours early - and then abused their mother, calling her a "f***ing whore".

Kershaw, 48, was released from prison on Friday after serving six weeks for repeatedly hounding ex-partner Juliette Banner and her new partner, Jim Imrie.

But after he promised jail officials: "You won't be seeing me again" - he then headed straight for the nearest pub.

Over the weekend, Kershaw, who has a long history of drink-related problems, was spotted downing pints of lager in a string of pubs.

After the hearing, Mrs Kershaw wept and said: "He looks so ill. He is emotionally and physically run-down.

"I have had two years of it. I just want to take him home and feed him up and get him better."

Kershaw said: "I have been given a really wonderful last chance, which I did not expect to get.

"I have been stupid and I am not going to squander this opportunity."
