It was a case of out with the old, in with the new last night as Agyness Deyn celebrated her new official position as the hottest model about town.

The fresh-faced 25-year-old star was the toast of the town on London's glamorous party scene after snatching the top spot on Tatler's Best Dressed list, while across town her haggard predecessor, 34, drowned her sorrows in a low-key West London pub.

Poles apart: Agyness Deyn lived the high life at a ritzy event in Marylebone last night, while a haggard looking Kate Moss had a low-key time at a West London pub

Deyn was in high spirits at as she turned out at TOD'S Art Plus Film party in Marylebone where she again showed off her unique take on fashion in a geometric print dress, checked blazer and heels trimmed with blue laces.

She spent the night sipping champagne and rubbing shoulders with London's social set.

Later, after moving on to the Converse Century Party at The Hoxton Bar & Grill with boyfriend Josh Hubbard, guests clambered to catch a glimpse of her.

Meanwhile, a dishevelled Moss, who came in at second place on Tatler's annual chart after two years of domination, was holed up in Notting Hill pub The Cow with rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince and small group of friends.

Glam versus glum: Best Dressed Agyness enjoys a glass of champagne; Kate emerges from the pub looking worse for wear

She has been out on the town for seven out of the last eight nights, and it certainly showed all across her tired and worn face.

It's not the first time the new girl of the moment has outshone Moss, who up until now has reigned supreme on the fashion scene for more than a decade.

Deyn, who has youth on her side, has emerged as a playful, clean living, fun-loving alternative to Moss, whose alleged drug-use and hard-partying appear to finally be catching up on her.

High end brands are queuing up to sign on Deyn, and she has already secured deals with luxury brand Burberry – a position formerly filled by Moss – as well as Armani.

Lip service: the 25-year-old steals a kiss from Hubbard

Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry has said of Deyn: "She's the girl everyone wants to be."

"She's free-spirited and always stands out from the crowd."

It has been a steady rise to fame for the pixie-haired blonde.

She attended All Saints' Catholic High School in her home town of Rawtenstall in the Rossendale Valley, east Lancashire and went on to take her A-levels at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School.

Girl of the moment: the rising star celebrated her triumph with friends

She was then known by her real name, Laura Hollins - she later swapped it for something more unique, settling on the destined-for-greatness moniker with the encouragement of her mother, Lorraine, a nurse.

Legend has it she was discovered while working part time in The Villiage Chippy, a fish and chip shop in the near by town of Stubbins.

But it has since been revealed that she was actually first spotted by a photographer in a trendy vintage store in London's Kentish Town.

Toppled: Kate came in second place on Tatler's annual chart

She landed her first professional job in 2006 starring on the cover of Italinan Vogue shot by photographer Steven Meisel, and just a year on she was named Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council.

In the past year, she has featured on the cover of Time Style & Design magazine, fashion house Zara has ordered mannequins designed around her and she's even a handbag named after her - Mulberry's Agyness bag.

Tatler noted: "Whether she's sipping chai at the Russian Tea Rooms in Primrose Hill or kicking back at Henry Holland's studio. She's fash-fabulous... Rockin'."

For her part, Deyn told Time Style & Design magazine her sense of style comes naturally: "I've always been into fashion, always changing the way I looked, ripping up and putting stuff together."

Still, her success has taken her by surprise: "Sometimes I wonder how the hell I got here. I got lucky, I guess, though I still feel like the kid in the Dr. Martens boots that I was when I started."

While few have disputed her star quality, she did cause something of a stir last year after it was revealed she was a number of years older than first thought.

In a series of interviews last year it was been reported that the model was 21 and internet databases also claim she was the same age – giving her date of birth as February 16, 1986.

A piece in a New York magazine piece even said her birthday was in 1989, prompting a Facebook page to be set up entitled Agyness Deyn You're Not 18.

Her listing on the Companies House website, under the name real name, showed her birthday as February 16, 1983.

Regardless, her popularity has continued to soar, and as well as being dubbed "the new Kate Moss" she has also been compared to the likes of British modelling icon Twiggy.

Praise has come from all quarters, but Deyn insists she's not entirely flawless, revealing: "I've got really bad feet."

There two completely different people, they just have the same career. Neither should be compared to each other.

Agyness will never replace Kate Moss. I hate that outfit Agyness is wearing for a start. Fake name, fake age, rubbish clothes. Someone tell Henry Holland to change his hair. I saw him walking down Tottenham court road and got the fright of my life.

Who are you kidding? That jacket? Best dressed? Kate rules. She's sexy and a genuine trend setter.

'Bad feet', she says. What about those two slugs resting on her forehead. Yuck. Agyness Deyn can keep dreaming.
