Shady ladies: Now Paris Hilton has got the blues

Updated 22:43pm on 8 Mar 2008

Paris Hilton splashed out on the latest celebrity must-have item during a shopping spree in LA yesterday - a pair bright blue shades.

The heiress proudly showed off her new purchase after trading in her white rimmed glasses for the new specs while spending up a storm on Robertson Blvd.

Feeling blue: Paris Hilton picked up a pair of 80s inspired shades during a shopping spree in LA yesterday

The Simple Life star is the latest in a list of stars to show off the 80s inspired sunglasses in recent times, including fashion forward girls about town Kelly Osbourne, Sienna Miller and Lily Allen.

Fashion observers have hailed "kooky shades" as the next big thing, with everyone from Primark to Miu Miu picking up the trend.

Paris was travelling solo for the afternoon after leaving behind her new rocker boyfriend Benji Madden, who have been almost inseparable in recent weeks.

But she was not short on company - a rather enthusiastic group of fans flocked to be by her side as she made her way back to her car.

Aside from an ever hectic shopping schedule, Paris is also gearing up for a guest appearance on the US show My Name Is Earl.

However the part should not be too much of an acting challenge - she is playing herself.

Series creator and executive producer Greg Garcia quipped: "I can't wait to see what she does with the role and I can't wait for America to discover her."
