Dave Clark thrives! But has he had Botox on a few bits and pieces?

Updated 15:13pm on 12 Mar 2008

More than four decades have passed since those bright eyes and dazzling smile helped his band conquer the pop world.

But it would seem that Dave Clark of the Dave Clark Five is still feeling - and looking - youthful all over.

The 65-year-old drummer made a rare public appearance as his group was inducted into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 44 years after they stormed the charts with Glad All Over.

In a rare public appearance, Clark, who lives the life of a recluse in a multi-million-pound mews house in London, seemed to have aged markedly less than the other two surviving members of the group, lead guitarist Lenny Davidson and bass player Rick Huxley.

Clark's hair appeared to have been dyed back to its 1960s colour and any grey on his beard looked to have been blended in with a touch-up brush. His face was remarkably wrinkle-free and there was a conspicuous absence of lines on his forehead.

Dr Lucy Glancey, a prominent London cosmetic surgeon, said there was no obvious evidence he had had a facelift. She said his looks were more likely down to less invasive procedures such as skin peels and the use of Botox on the forehead.

"He certainly looks good for his age," she added.

At the induction ceremony, held in New York on Monday, Clark paid tribute to the band's keyboard player Mike Smith, who died two weeks ago, and saxophonist Denny Payton, who died in 2006.

Five years ago, Smith was left paralysed in a fall at his home.

Clark said: "Mike tried desperately to be here tonight, but sadly he passed away just a few days ago.

"But at least he knows he's a Hall of Famer. Mike, you are with us in spirit, my friend, and always will be."

Clark, Davidson and Huxley were given a standing ovation.

The group, who followed the Beatles as part of the 'British Invasion' of America, sold 100million records with hits such as Bits And Pieces and Catch Us If You Can.

They split up in 1971.
