He's known for playing a tough guy on screen and it seems Sir Sean Connery can play one off too.

Connery and his neighbour in New York are suing each other over their Upper East side townhouse in the city's Manhattan district in an ongoing feud.

The Bond actor, 77, occupies the top two floors, while the bottom four floors are occupied by opthalmologist Dr Burton Sultan and his family.

The Oscar-winning star wants the 1869 property all to himself and has been trying to get Dr Sultan to move.

Sean Connery and his wife Micheline

The Untouchables: Sir Sean Connery (above with wife Lady Micheline) wants his neighbour in New York to move out of the townhouse they both reside in

A controversial 2004 letter from Connery's lawyer, Robert Lynn, to Connery's wife, Lady Micheline, has surfaced on tmz.com in which he tells her: "I think if we tie him (Sultan) up in several lawsuits, hopefully this will either permanently subdue him, or drive him out of the building."

However it appears there have been dirty tricks played on both sides, as Sultan's former lawyer, Irving Singer, allegedly bribed Lynn.

In a statement under oath yesterday, Singer's former legal secretary, Karen Milazzo, claims Lynn offered Singer $1million to settle the case - and "not for the benefit of the clients".

Milazzo alleges she overheard Singer tells Lynn, "I will not do it for a million dollars. I need one and one half to two million dollars to retire."

Singer denies that he took any money from Connery's lawyer, but seems to confirm that money was in fact offered.

Dr Sultan recently claimed that renovations being carried out by Connery has subjected his family to noise, fumes, leaks and rats, and the families have clashed repeatedly over the issue.

One of Dr Sultan's former lawsuits labelled Connery a "rude, foul-mouthed, fat old man" who plays "loud music all the time while stomping about" the apartment.
