What a difference a day makes: Jodie Foster's stunning 24-hour transformation from frumpy to fabulous

Updated 23:27pm on 15 Mar 2008

As actress Jodie Foster was seen wearing slouchy sweats, and pumps, with a make-up free face, it was clear she was dressed for comfort as she was seen leaving the hairdressers in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

But just 24 hours later, Jodie had transformed into a glamorous Hollywood star, for an appearance at an awards show in Las Vegas, and appeared distinctly unrecognisable from the woman who was seen just 24 hours earlier.

Dressed in a dazzling white shift dress, paired with heels and immaculately applied make-up, Oscar-winner Jodie looked the picture of elegance at the 2008 Showest Closing Night Award Show and Banquet, at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

Recently the somewhat reclusive actress best known for her role as Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, spoke out about her long career.

She has been an actress since the age of 3, when she first appeared as the Coppertone tanning oil girl in a television commerical, and her first Oscar nomination came at age 14 for portraying an underage prostitute in Taxi Driver.

But Jodie revealed in a new interview that growing up as a child prodigy was a rather lonely experience.

She told US magazine Parade: "Being a child prodigy is lonely. I was one of them. You're different from other kids. No one else can understand.

"To me, acting didn't seem like much of a profession. My mom always said, 'By the time you're 16, your career will be over. So what do you want to do then?' She was correct. Most child actors' careers end early. They're lost."

Now, the double Oscar-winner appears to be comfortable with her role as mother to two boys, Charles Bernard Foster, and Kit Bernard Foster.

Last year, she also finally broke her silence about her 14-year lesbian relationship with film producer Cydney Bernard.

In a speech to a gathering of fellow Hollywood stars, the 45-year-old, who was collecting an award, pointedly thanked: "My beautiful Cydney, who sticks by me through all the rotten and the bliss."

It was the first public recognition by Jodie of 54-year-old Miss Bernard, who shares the actress's home and the care of her sons, Charlie, nine, and six-year-old Kit.

She said: "Boys are easy. I mean, there are just a lot of bruises when they're young. With boys, you get a lot of accidental jabs in the eye and stepping on your feet, and those tantrums they cause when they don't want to leave the toy store.

"But my boys are getting older now. They go to school all day, and then one wants to do T-ball and the other wants to do karate, so they're actually gone until four-thirty.

"I want them to have curiosity about things they don't know, and a desire to see places bigger than where they grew up."

Meanwhile, an obsessed fan of Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster has been accused of sending a bomb threat, mentioning Foster's name, to an airport.

Michael Smegal, 42, who three years ago admitted sending anonymous letters to The Silence Of The Lambs star for more than a year, was arrested and charged in Boston.

The actress' new film, "Nim's Island," a family comedy-adventure about a reclusive writer and a little girl who befriends her, also stars Abigail Breslin and opens in the US on April 4.
