Zorro star Antonio Banderas back in a black mask... but this time it's for an Easter parade

Updated 18:15pm on 18 Mar 2008

Antonio Banderas famously wore a black mask for his signature role as the heroic swordsman Zorro, but as he covered his face with cloth yesterday, it was for an all together different reason.

The Spanish actor pulled on a black hood to take part in an Easter procession in his home town of Malaga yesterday.

He completed the look with a tunic complete with a heavy rope cincture.

But there was one item that wasn't in step with tradition – a pair of support heels.

He was clearly feeling his 47 years as prepared to carry a religious statue in shoes designed to ease muscular aches and pains.

He's not the first ageing leading man to be spotted in the footwear - Sylvester Stallone, 61, was seen wearing a pair at the London opening of the latest Rambo instalment in February.

His wife Melanie Griffith, 50, joined him on the visit to his native Spain, where he was reunited with his mother Ana.

Antonio was fresh from a stint in Milan, Italy, where he has been filming his new movie The Other Man alongside Liam Neeson.

These are MBT shoes which are designed also for muscle toning and exercise - they are not necessarily for support shoes. They are not the easiest shoes to walk in - and I speak from experience.

These are not support heals rather a pair of MBTs which if anything provide less support and are designed to develop the foot and calf muscles.
