Pale-faced Girls Aloud star Nicola launches new make-up range... but has she gone too far?

Updated 16:15pm on 3 Apr 2008

Nicola Roberts has finally achieved her ambition of launching a make-up range for paler skins.

But sandwiched between her perma-tanned Girls Aloud bandmates Cheryl Cole and Kimberly Walsh, Nicola, with her exceedingly pale skin, it appears she may have gone too far.

The flame-haired 22-year-old seemed to have used rather too much of the range herself, as her complexion took on a somewhat deathly pallor.

Paler than thou: Nicola Roberts may have taken the pale look too far as she looked exceedingly pale stood next to her Girls Aloud bandmates Cheryl Cole, and Kimberly Walsh, right

Cheryl and Kimberley appeared at London restaurant Sketch to give Nicola's launch a boost, but it served only to make their redheaded pale look almost unnaturally milky.

Nicola created the range, aimed at fair-skinned girls like herself as part of ITV reality show 'Passions', after producers asked the girl group to "take on a challenge to fulfil a life-long dream".

Part of the crowd: Nicola wants to help paler-skinned girls look their best

She opted to create her own make-up range for pale skin because she said: "I know how difficult it can be to find the right sort of sexy look with the products already out there."

Kimberley said: "Nicola has really put her heart into producing her make-up range and she really hopes that she can help people who are also pale like her."

As Girls Aloud shot to fame with hits like Jump and Chemistry Nicola revealed that she turned to drink to escape taunts about her looks and shrank into the background behind her more glamorous bandmates.

Support: Cheryl and Kimberly came out to toast the product launch for Nicola's new make-up range for pale skins

She said: "For years I felt like the ugly one in Girls Aloud. I was tall, skinny, with red hair and the whitest skin you've ever seen - standing next to to four of the most gorgeous girls in Britain.

"I was the ugly one, the odd one out.

She added: "People on radio and TV started making nasty comments about me and I felt awful."

But now, with her dream realised she said: "Hopefully I can help a lot of girls out there to look their best."

Pale girls allowed: Nicola no longer feels like the odd one out among her pale-skinned sisters

I don't see what the big deal is...obviously she's going to look pale stood next to her band mates who've never shied away from fake tans etc. But she looks gorgeous, I'd rather have a 'milky' complexion staring out on my screen than a tanorexic.
