Quick-change Kate Hudson parties on in a LBD after colour-clash at premiere

Updated 22:01pm on 12 Apr 2008

Kate Hudson is nothing if not versatile – at least when it comes to fashion.

The star transformed from elegant red carpet darling to party-ready frock star in no time at all while in London to promote her new movie Fool's Gold last night.

She began the night in a spectacular full length John Galliano gown for the film's premiere Leicester Square.

Quick change: Kate Hudson slipped into a little black dress after the London premiere of Fool's Gold last night

However before heading out in Soho she'd managed a very quick change in the ladies' toilets, slipping into a flirty little black dress for the after-party on a Thames pleasure boat.

But the night wasn't without at least one fashion hitch.

The source of the faux pas was a blue replacement for the traditional red carpet at the premiere; the aggravating feature her dress, a shimmering confection of turquoise green and gold.

Radiant: Kate's smouldering eyes and understated hairstyle were the perfect match for her heavily embroidered gown

Colour co-ordinated they certainly weren't and Goldie Hawn's 28-year-old daughter may well have been left pondering the old adage blue and green should never be seen.

It was enough to leave onlookers feeling just a little seasick.

However, if the clashing carpet did put her off her stride, she certainly didn't show it and was soon arranging her gown, which was heavily embellished with embroidery and tassels, for the cameras.

The appearance of Hollywood hunk Matthew McConaughey, her co-star in new film Fool's Gold, seemed to make her even happier and the pair were soon laughing and fooling around.

Miss Hudson, who was wearing Bulgari jewellery, happily admitted that she was the latest Hollywood star to fall victim to some clever computer trickery after her cleavage was digitally enhanced on publicity material.

Helping hand: Co-star Matthew McConaughey moves in to gallantly rearrange Kate's dress. However her outfit on the carpet prove that blue and green should never be seen

"You've just got to let those things go," she said, "I can't tell you how many magazines I've been on where my eyes are blue. I don't have blue eyes, I have green eyes.

"I don't think it sets a bad example. The examples I set are just how I am with my family and nobody knows that but me, my closest friends and family."

Fool's Gold tells the story of a married couple, played by Miss Hudson and McConaughey, who are almost torn apart by the husband's obsession with the Queen's Dowry, 40 chests lost at sea in 1715.

The blue carpet was picked to tie in with the seafaring theme.
