Mother-to-be Natasha Kaplinsky has showed off her growing baby bump as she enjoyed a spot of retail therapy.

The newsreader, 35, looked happy and healthy as she shopped for baby clothes in London's South Kensington.

Wearing a heavy black cardigan, jeans and sunglasses, Kaplinsky seemed pleased with her purchases and smiled at photographers as she made her way through the streets yesterday.

She became Britain's highest-paid newsreader when Five lured her from the BBC in a £1million-a-year deal.

Kaplinsky announced that she was expecting her baby with her husband of two years, Justin Bower only six weeks into the role.

The former Strictly Come Dancing winner has been credited with increasing viewers by a massive 72 per cent since she took over Five's revamped news bulletin.

She is expected to take maternity leave from September and to be off for "a few months".

Five's senior controller of news and current affairs Chris Shaw said of her pregnancy: "I am genuinely delighted for her.

"Obviously we are going to have to find a stand-in but she has made it a very attractive job - so I don't think we will have a problem there.

"In the meantime we hope to carry on building on her early success."

She married investment banker Bower in August 2005, just six months after she had met him on a blind date.
