BAFTA TV Awards 2008: Glamorous Kelly Brook is a style winner but Joanna Lumley and Tess Daly clash with the carpet
Last updated at 16:29pm on 21.04.08As the stars arrived for the BAFTA Television Awards, it was already clear who were the winners and losers in the sartorial stakes.
Kelly Brook was the obvious front-runner, channelling vintage Hollywood glamour in a floor-skimming silk navy-blue Suzie Turner gown and white Dior fur shrug.
Close behind were Katherine Jenkins for understated elegance in Vivienne Westwood, Patsy Palmer in a very un-Bianca style black cocktail dress, also by Vivienne Westwood, and Keeley Hawes, sans perm, in a simple white gown by Ben di Lisi.

Glamorous: Kelly Brook led the style stakes as she went for old-fashioned Hollywood glamour in her Suzie Turner dress, Dior fur stole and diamond drop earings

Shining bright: Joanna Lumley clashed with the red carpet in an adventurous orange number while Tess Daly also shone in hot pink Martin Grant - complete with Oxfam handbag

Sleek: The former Spooks and Ashes to Ashes star Keeley Hawes leaves behind Eighties fashion in a simple white gown by Ben de Lisi

Blooming marvellous: Pregnant Tazmin Outhwaite makes the most of her curves in an empire line Jasmine De Mile gown while Gina McKee opts for a Alberta Ferretti dress

Understated elegance: Kate Garraway, who went for a simple sculptured red dress, and journalist Kirsty Young in L'Wren Scott show the younger stars how it's done
However, the fashion faux-pas were instantly noticeable - because they clashed with the red carpet.
Tess Daly's hot pink number by Martin Grant and Joanna Lumley's deep orange draping gown did not agree with the traditional red runway and thus ruined their respective carefully constructed images.

Frocky horror: Miranda Raison's yellow gown with ribbbon tie proved unflattering while Alesha Dixon's Seventies psychedelic dress should have been left hanging in the wardrobe

Striking: Sally Farmillloe looked stunning in emerald green while rising star Charity Wakefield played it down in a black and gold Escada gown with trailing chiffon necktie

Night of contrasts: Emilia Fox went for a mustard Alberta Ferretti dress, while model and newly-single Melinda Messenger decided on a more dramatic Lauren B princess gown

Dressed to kill: Katherine Jenkins hit the right note in her evening blue Vivienne Westwood gown while Amanda Mealing turned up the heat in revealing Angel Sanchez
Sense and Sensibility star Charity Wakefield looked slinky in a classic floor-length Escada gown, while Kirsty Young also showed that black is best with her lace L'Wren Scott cocktail dress.
Meanwhile, Emilia Fox, who chose a delicate mustard-coloured Ferreti dress with matching bag, completed the look with antique diamond earrings and bracelet.
Along with the red carpet successes, however, there were also some notable disasters. Miranda Raison's yellow gown with ribbbon tie proved unflattering while Alesha Dixon's Seventies psychedelic dress should have been left hanging in the wardrobe.

I really like Joanna Lumley's lovely bright orange Gown, and would very much like to know who made this Gown - she looks fab in it.

I thought Joanna Lumley looked fabulous. So nice to see a woman over 60 in a great vibrant dress & not a boring black trouser suit that so many favour.

What designers suits did the men wear or as usual are we being ignored?

For a chain, Gaucho is startlingly expensive, the final bill ending up pretty close to one from much more stylish, individual restaurants
