Why Anne Robinson needed a disguise AFTER she'd popped out to the shops

Updated 10:44am on 28 Apr 2008

As her fondness for cosmetic surgery shows, Anne Robinson always likes to look her best for the camera.

So her horror can only be imagined when she popped out to the newsagent's in an old grey tracksuit, without make-up, only to find a photographer waiting for her as she came out of the shop.

You don't get to be a multi-millionaire quiz show presenter, however, without learning how to think on your feet.

Oops - Anne Robinson spots the snapper outside the shop and emerges several minutes later in cap and coat brought down by her assistant

Miss Robinson dived back inside and called her personal assistant on her mobile phone. Moments later, the assistant arrived carrying a coat, baseball cap and oversized sunglasses.

And duly covered up, the 63-year-old Weakest Link inquisitor emerged to walk back to her West London home with a smirk of triumph.

Perhaps Miss Robinson is becoming more wary of photographers following her experience of a week ago, when pictures were published which appeared to show that she had just had further work on her looks following her facelift of 2004.

Anne with her trout pout last week, but a friend insisted that she had 'overdone the sunblock'

A leading cosmetic surgeon said he believed that fillers had been injected into her upper lip to make it fuller and to make her look more youthful.

In response to questioning about the look, a friend insisted that she had merely "overdone the sun block" - even though it was a dull and rainy day.

And Miss Robinson herself invited the Mail to photograph her at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire where she was filming The Weakest Link.

Then her lips certainly appeared to be less plump. Yet on closer inspection, it appeared that the make-up artists on set had been hard at work.

The plumpness of both top and bottom lips appeared to have been reduced using skin-tone make-up to make the darker area of the lip appear smaller.

I think it's sad that Anne Robinson has had further surgery. I watched her this evening on Watchdog and the mobility in her face wasn't right. She didn't look the same as I have seen her before.
As far as I know she has had a successful career as a journalist in a very tough environment on Fleet Street and rose to the top ,not on looks but on talent.I believe she has also dealt with her alcohol addiction which must have been very difficult.
I admire her for her talent and tenacity.
I always thought Anne was attractive before her surgeries.
I am disappointed that she has decided to submit herself to these invasive procedures.
Anne should be a role model to younger women showing them that you can succeed through talent and hard work and not have to turn yourself in to a younger version to please the outmoded male bosses at the BBC.
Do we really want young women to aspire to be like 'Jordan' aka katie price
she has made millions from being surgically enhanced for the consumption of the male population..
Katie Price is a successful horse rider, enter the olympics katie and show us what you can achieve.
Both women have talents and qualities that surpass their looks.
They both have got their millions so don't need to support the womens liberation movement.
At what cost and are they both happy?
