At the end of a whirlwind week of glamorous movie star duty, a girl could end up feeling a little flat.

At least Gwyneth Paltrow had the perfect shoes for the job.

The actress, who spent last week tottering around Europe in a collection of towering stilettos up to seven inches high, decided to give her feet a well-earned rest once back home in London.

Daring: Gwyneth Paltrow slipped on a racy Stella McCartney number with Christian Louboutin heels for another Iron Ma screening in New York, and visiting her back specialist earlier in London in gladiator-style flatties

So when she visited her favourite holistic clinic for a spot of back treatment, it was in a comfortable pair of gladiator sandals with not even a hint of elevation.

With only a day or two to spare between European premieres and flying to New York, she was keen to iron out the kinks a week wearing stilettos can leave.

At Dr Nish Joshi's clinic in Wimpole Street she had a range of treatments, including acupuncture and massage, to realign her spine and relieve tension.

Interviewed later in New York to promote her film Iron Man, Miss Paltrow, 35, was stoic about her stiletto spree. "They were just fabulous," she said.

"They were very tall but they weren't hard to walk in.

"I'm a very capable heel walker but I had trouble with my knee while I was making the film and sometimes on stairs it hurts."

Spotted in London over the weekend, she was seen kicking off her heels as soon as she got into her car after a night out.

Quick change: Gwyneth arrives at David Letterman's studio fresh from a workout but slipped into something a little less comfortable for the show

Well-heeled: Gwyneth wore black stillettos in London last week, Burberry boots in Berlin and Pacchini platforms in Paris while on tour to promote her new new movie

But when she appeared on David Letterman's U.S. talk show she was back to her elevated best in another pair of stilettos - having arrived at the studio in her gym kit.

It seems Miss Paltrow is not the only one in the family with an eye for the latest fashion in footwear.

She said her three-year-old daughter Apple loved walking "around the house in my high heels".

The actress was back on the promotional trail on Monday with another glamorous red carpet appearance at a screening of her new film at New York's Tribeca Grand Hotel.

Her holey Stella McCartney dress, paired with Christian Laboutin heels, left little to the imagination.

Gwyneth, who has trotted around the globe in towering 7inch heels this month - Burberry boots in Berlin! Pacchini platforms in Paris! - didn't disappoint, arriving at the event in a pair of black patent Christian Louboutins.

Support: Gwyneth's husband Chris Martin stayed away from the red carpet as usual, but the actress wasn't short on company

But it was her daring little black dress, a thigh-skimming see-through Stella McCartney number, that really stole the show.

While Chris Martin was nowhere in sight after the couple vowed to never attend public events together, the actress wasn't short on support, with friends Liv Tyler and Helena Christensen turning out at the event.

It's Gwyneth's first official tour of duty since she stepped away from the spotlight to raise her two children.

Gwyneth Paltrow is mixing up her palate; for years all I ever saw her in was white, creme or light pink (the Oscar's dress). When actresses mature, and they can no longer play the engenue, different looks become a key to new roles... The black dress is very daring. Very few people could get away with wearing it and she does. She's a beautiful woman... Good luck to her.

Revealing yes, sexy no. It highlights the fact that she has apparently no cleavage. And what is that ridiculous black triangle under her chin for?

She's trying so hard it is a bit sad really.

The photo next to Liv Tyler is very funny. One girl doesn't give a damn and the other is desperately trying to look young. Which one is Gwyneth?
