A truly bad hair day: Wind reveals Liz Hurley's beauty secret

On the red carpet, she appears to radiate a natural glamour. But it seems Liz Hurley has a few props to help her in that department.

And as she returned home yesterday, one of the secrets of her effortless elegance was plainly visible at the back of her head.

Oops: Liz's hair weave malfunction leaves a revealing bald patch

A badly-placed hairpiece, which may help give Miss Hurley the voluminous hair for which she is envied, seemed to be evident as she returned to her London home following a trip to Hugh Grant's house nearby.

An onlooker said: "It looked like her hair extensions had gone awry."

Miss Hurley had been dropped off at her 47-year-old former boyfriend's place by her husband Arun Nayar, 43. She then walked home with a Louis Vuitton suitcase.

Except for the designer label, it's a scene with which many a harassed mother might identify.

The dishevelled hair, furry jacket and jeans, made the 42-year-old seem almost mortal - a far cry from the elegant and youthful pose she strikes in her latest bikini advertising campaign.

And ageing is reality that Miss Hurley, whose son Damian is six, is quite happy to admit.

Launching her swimsuit line for the high street chain Mango last week, she said: "Shooting bikinis is now my life, which as you can imagine is unmitigated hell. But if you signed on for the gig, sadly, you have to go and be jolly in a skimpy white bikini.

"So now I rely on nice photographers and a certain amount of retouching. I don't mind if you want to make me a bit thinner and a bit younger."

But when it comes to reality, Miss Hurley probably still wins hands down. Surely there is no bad hair day that a £450 appointment with Nicky Clarke couldn't solve?

I always thought Liz would be the Joan Collins of the future, with her love for an "irish" to boost her flimsy locks she is well on her way!
