She's a qualified diver, an accomplished skier and, rumour has it, no slouch on the dancefloor. She even considered putting her skates on to appear on Dancing On Ice.

However, it seems that riding a jet ski was a challenge too far for Princess Beatrice - at least at first.

After attempting a tricky manoeuvre, the young Royal ended up with a faceful of surf.

As she rubbed her no-doubt sore and stinging eyes, she wasn't exactly brimming with regal poise. The situation didn't improve when the water got in her nose as well, resulting in some rather strange facial expressions.

Later, however, the 19-year-old appeared to have got her "sea legs" and happily whizzed around the sea off the Caribbean island of St Barts with her American boyfriend Dave Clark, 25.

The island is the latest in a string of gap-year destinations for Beatrice, who is fifth in line to the throne.

She has taken in Argentina, Brazil, Spain and Belgium, not to mention two skiing trips to Switzerland.

She has also been spotted in Los Angeles.

In January, she joined her father on an official visit to Egypt and Abu Dhabi.

She is said to be keen to spend as much time as possible with Mr Clark before she begins a course at Goldsmiths College in London in September.

The American, a St Andrews University friend of Prince William, works for Sir Richard Branson on his Virgin Galactic project.

His family now live in Hampstead, North London.
