They say size matters, and when it comes to some stars' cars, it is a case of the smaller the better.

Liz Hurley and Wayne Rooney both bucked the A-list trend for SUVs and limousine travel this week, opting instead to zip around town in tiny sets of wheels.

Hitting the small time: Wayne Rooney leaving Carrington training ground in his Mini GP earlier this week

The model was spotted behind the wheel of her compact Fiat 500 as she cruised around London on a shopping spree today and two days earlier the Manchester United star was first out of the starting grid at Carrington training ground in his top of the range Mini GP.

The car is just one in Rooney's luxury fleet, which also includes in a Bentley, Range Rover and a Lamborghini.

This month he recently splashed out on yet another luxury car, a �350,000 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster.

A source said: "The players are always trying to compete with each other over flash cars. That will keep the others quiet for a bit."
