From hero to zero: Matt Damon is re-Bourne as a moustachioed geek in new movie

Updated 22:58pm on 10 May 2008

Matt Damon's female fans are in for a shock when they see his latest film role - playing a geeky business executive.

Far from his action man role as Jason Bourne in the Bourne trilogy, Matt is unrecognisable as business executive-turned-FBI whistleblower Mark Whitacre in upcoming thriller The Informant.

His latest guise is far cry from Matt's usual hunky persona, which saw him being named The Sexiest Man Alive by U.S. magazine People last year.

On set in Illinois, Matt dressed the part in an unflattering checked shirt and burgundy jumper with metal-rimmed glasses and a caterpillar-like moustache.

Despite his nerdy appearance, Matt's pulling power was still evident as he was surrounded by excited female fans during a break in the filming in the town of Decatur.

Matt has reunited with Ocean's trilogy director Steven Soderbergh for the film, which has been adapted from Kurt Eichenwald's 2000 book The Informant: A True Story.

Mark Whitacre was President of the BioProducts Divison and Corporate Vice President of U.S. agricultural processor Archer Daniels Midland, when he informed the FBI the organisation had been meeting with rival companies to fix the price of the food additive lysine.

After spending three years working undercover for the FBI, he was eventually convicted for his role in the price-fixing and also plead guilty to fraud.

The film also stars Quantum Leap actor Scott Bakula and Back To The Future baddie Thomas F. Wilson and is set for release next year.
