Hollywood actress Liv Tyler and her British rocker husband Royston Langdon have split after five years of marriage, they have confirmed.

The couple released a statement insisting they "remain good friends" and "devoted parents" to their son three-year-old son Milo.

Sources had claimed the pair had been heading for a break-up "for some time".

The "Lord of the Rings" star re-emerged into the spotlight in recent times, recently filming The Incredible Hulk in Toronto.

An insider revealed: "She seemed very comfortable being away from Royston and London for such an extended period of time and really relished the chance to get back to work on a big film.

"When was filming The Incredible Hulk, she seemed even more free-spirited and happy to be working, and rarely spoke about Royston at all."

The statement released by Liv's representatives said: "Liv Tyler and Royston Langdon have confirmed their seperation.

"They remain good friends and devoted parents to their son Milo and are requesting that their family's privacy be respected at this time."

Leeds-born Langdon, 36, is the lead singer and bass player in rock band Arckid and was in Spacehog when he began dating Liv in the summer of 1998.

The pair married in March 2003 at a private villa in Barbados after Langdon proposed on Valentine's Day.

Guests at the ceremony included Liv's Aerosmith frontman dad Steve Tyler and her close pal Kate Hudson.

Langdon claimed Liv was his "inspiration and muse" for Spacehog's third album The Hogyssey, released in April 2001.

The couple's son Milo was born in December 2004.
