Mother load: Cate Blanchett arriving at Heathrow airport today

Almost 24 hours with a newborn baby a long haul flight is enough to leave most mother's frazzled, but Cate Blanchett looked a picture tranquility as she arrived at Heathrow this morning.

The star, who has been in Australia since giving birth in Sydney last month, was all smiles made her way through the terminal with baby Ignatius in tow.

The only hint of fatigue came in the form of dark sunglass, which she kept planted firmly on her face.

Motherhood is of course familiar territory for Cate, who has two other sons with husband Andrew Upton: Dashiell, aged six, and Roman, aged three.

The actress is gearing up for the highly anticipated release of her next film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which will premiere for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18.

The Oscar winner, who stars alongside Harrison Ford, has said of filming: "On the first day of shooting it was extremely surreal."

"I was watching the monitor as Steven set up the frame and I knew the iconography of the frame. It was instantly recognisable to me - and then I had to step into it."

The 39-year-old has a number of other projects in the pipeline, including voicing a lead character in the animation, The Fantastic Mr. Fox alongside George Clooney.

Precious cargo: Cate travelled with her son Ignatius, who was born on April 13
