Here come the brides: Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres are planning to marry

Former Ally McBeal actress Portia was at the studio and the happy couple are said to have been given a standing ovation by the delighted audience.

The pair got together in 2004 after leaving their previous partners.

Ellen has said she is "thrilled" at the ruling by the California supreme court to overturn the state's ban on gay marriage.

She said: "I can't wait to get married.

"We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that some day we'll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote."

Ready to marry: Cynthia Nixon with girlfriend Christine Marinoni at London's National Theatre this week

Meanwhile Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has revealed that she is also ready to marry her female lover.

The actress, best known as red head Miranda, hopes New York will soon make same sex marriages legal so she can tie the knot with Christine Marinoni.

The 42-year-old mother of two ditched her boyfriend of 15 years to begin a lesbian relationship with Marinoni in 2003.

She said: "New York has no same sex marriage. I think one day soon hopefully it may and I think we would consider it."

Nixon was speaking on The Graham Norton Show.
