And that counts double in Cannes.

So it was very fortunate for Billy Zane that he and Kelly Brook appear to have patched things up in time for his stint on the red carpet.

In town to plug The Man Who Came Back, the man who won his woman back was looking particularly smug.

For her part, Kelly has been rather enjoying the attention since news of their split made headlines, and the 28-year-old could be relied on to beam for the cameras.

The truth about the couple's reunion may not be entirely clear, but they looked relaxed enough together at the exclusive Century Club at the Cannes Film Festival.

She is still not wearing her £35,000 ring and is understood to want to things more slowly this time around. It has been claimed that Billy is keen to get the wedding back on track as soon as possible.

The couple were pictured back in each other's arms last week after splitting up three weeks earlier.

Miss Brook cut short a holiday with friends in Cornwall and flew to London to meet Billy.

The couple enjoyed an intimate meal and spent the night in a West London hotel. He was seen attempting to woo her with chocolates and long-stem roses.

However, reports yesterday suggested that he might have been the one to break off the relationship. A source claimed that at 42, he hadn't wanted to settle down in the Kent farmhouse where she wants to raise a family.

Their relationship hit the rocks in November shortly after Kelly's father Kenneth Parsons died following a long battle with cancer.

Despite a make-or-break holiday in the Caribbean in January, the couple had a blazing public row in LA in February.

Last month, Kelly confirmed the split after she appeared at the Bafta TV awards minus her engagement ring.

Initially it was claimed she felt too young to marry, but more recent reports have suggested Billy called off the wedding before realising he had made a mistake.

Last year, Billy and Kelly attended Cannes together to promote their flop film Fishtails.
