Indiana Jones and an eye-watering chest wax to save the planet

Updated 14:09pm on 22 May 2008

Harrison Ford's latest stunt may not have seen him leaping from a moving car - but it was just as hairy.

The fit-looking 65-year-old Hollywood star is seen wincing in pain as he submitted to the final frontier in male grooming, a chest-wax.

But thankfully Ford hasn't fallen victim to Hollywood's notorious love of vanity.

That's gotta hurt: Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford braces as a strip of hair is yanked from his chest in television campaign to spread the word about the effect of deforestation on global warming

The actor is seen stealing himself in a still from a television advert as a strip of hair is yanked from his chest in a bid to raise awareness for pressure group Conservation International.

With his toned physique revealed as he lays on the wax therapists table, Ford closes his eyes as she tears a strip off him.

The message Ford conveys via the rather painful medium of chest-waxing is: "Every bit of rain forest that gets ripped out over there, really hurts us over here."

Conservation International CEO Peter Seligmann said Ford was keen to do the campaign and approved of the waxing concept.

"I was there when he filmed it. It really hurt. There's nothing about the expression on his face that was fake", said Seligmann.

The actor, sits on the board of directors of the Washington-based environmental organisation, and took part to spread the word about the effect of deforestation on global warming.

In between chest-waxing Ford has been busy promoting his return to the role of Indiana Jones after a gap of 19 years at the Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere, London and more recently New York.

The fourth instalment of the  latest movie, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," co-starring Shia LaBeouf and Karen Allen, opens in the US on May 22.
