If they were battling a fatal illness, most people would be in understandably low spirits.

But brave Patrick Swayze was all smiles as he watched a basketball game with his wife, Lisa Niemi.

In his first since public appearance since he announced he was ill, Patrick looked relaxed as he enjoyed the play-off between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs.

Staying upbeat, Patrick looked happy and relaxed throughout the game

The Dirty Dancing actor admitted he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and going through chemotherapy in March.

The life-threatening disease can spread quickly and is rarely discovered in its early stages.

Despite this, the 55-year-old's doctor is optimistic that Patrick will win his fight to survive.

Dr George Fisher said to People magazine in March: "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

"All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."
