Worse for wear Naomi Campbell parties at close of Cannes...and reveals her bald patch

Updated 08:12am on 27 May 2008

Model Naomi Campbell had a whale of a time at a party in her honour thrown by designers Dolce and Gabbana.

So much so, that she threw caution - and her weave to the wind - by dancing so energetically that she exposed  what looked like a bald patch in the middle of her scalp.

The fiery model looked the worse for wear as she was seen leaving the party at club Baoli in Port Canto,  where she was partying with celebrities including ex-boyfriend P-Diddy and a mystery man.

Hair malfunction: Naomi's wild partying unwittingly exposed her weave

Dressed in a stunning D&G silver glitter mini dress, Naomi who celebrated her 38th birthday in Cannes last week, looked the picture of party chic as she posed with hosts Domenico Dolce and Stefan Gabbana.

But after several hours partying she emerged clearly the worse for wear, and in need of support from friends.

Her long hair extensions were hanging limply around her face, and exposed a rather wide parting and what looked like hair loss.

At least on this occasion she left the party looking happier than she did on her birthday.

Naomi celebrated her 38th birthday with friends in Cannes, and then moved on to a VIP party aboard music mogul P Diddy’s yacht.

She was all smiles as she arrived in her lace party frock but, by 3am she was spotted in tears, and had to be comforted by another party guest.

The reason for her meltdown remains unclear, but Naomi and Diddy have a history of confrontation.

According to reports last year - at a Grammy after-party in LA, Diddy shouted at Naomi and her date in the middle of the party, leaving her shocked and upset.

And he also managed getting in a few choice words for the model’s companion, Terence Howard, as well.

However, the pair seemed to be back on good terms as they partied side by side on the final weekend of the film festival in Cannes.

It was revealed that the supermodel is to be charged over an alleged air rage incident over lost luggage at Heathrow last month.

The prosecution follows a row which led to the star being hauled off a BA plane in handcuffs after staff told her that one of her bags had been lost in Terminal Five.

Reports claimed she physically and verbally assaulted both police and airline staff, as well as spitting and screaming.

Meanwhile as Cannes drew to a close, a British film scooped an honour in the film competition.

Hunger, directed by London-born Turner Prize winner Steve McQueen won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, tells the story of Bobby Sands' 1981 hunger strike.

He died as a result of the protest while in jail at Maze Prison in Northern Ireland.

Co-producer Laura Hastings-Smith said: "The key to the film was that it looked at the humanity of the story and how this place, Maze Prison, at that time in history, how it was a brutalising place for everyone - be you prison officer, prisoner, orderly or riot guard.

"It was a tragedy for everyone. We looked at what happens when dialogue stops and that has a resonance across the world."

The film stars Irish actor Michael Fassbender as IRA prisoner Sands, the leader and the first to die in the Maze prison hunger strike.

Other winners at the 61st Cannes Film Festival, selected by a nine member jury headed by Sean Penn, include The Class, a French film set in a school in a Parisian suburb, which won the Palme d'Or.
