Kim Cattrall gets caught up in a wardrobe malfunction at Sex And The City's New York premiere

Updated 15:52pm on 28 May 2008

It was a glamorous homecoming for the Sex And The City stars at the film’s highly anticipated New York premiere last night, but it wasn’t without at least one hitch.

While her costars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis each looked a picture of elegance as they sashayed down the freshly laid pink carpet, Kim Cattrall was struck by a brief wardrobe malfunction.

Tight fit: Kim Cattrall's dress proved a little too tight at the New York premiere of Sex And The City last night

Her metallic figure-hugging Vivienne Westwood frock proved just a little too tight for comfort, with the star forced to ply clingy material away from her derrière.

But the actress handled the mishap with Samantha’s trademark aplomb, laughing it off with a wink and cheeky smile.

Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, who plays Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant in the movie, narrowly avoided a costume drama – at one point her ample cleavage threatened to spill out of her very low cut Peter Soronen dress as she showered the crowd with air kisses.

She had flown in from her Chicago especially for the occasion, and spent much of the night chatting with singer Fergie, who recorded the film’s new title song.

SJP, who dazzled in a flowing silver Nina Ricci gown, was accompanied by her husband Matthew Broderick.

She was greeted by more than 3000 dedicated fans who had descended on Radio City Music Hall for the big night.

Reunited: Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall put aside rumours of tension to pose up together at the event

She said: "It feels otherworldly. It's one of the great nights of my professional career."

Cynthia turned heads in a white Narciso Rodriguez gown while Kristin slipped on a gold Donna Karan dress, braving the warm conditions.

Kristin said: "We were worried about everyone out there with the weather, but they're New Yorkers. They can take anything."

Mr Big  - aka Chris Noth - arrived with his actress girlfriend Tara Wilson and said he was thrilled to be attending the premiere in his hometown.

"I live in New York. This is like a party. It's a great place for it."

Other stars turned out in force, including Mary J. Blige, Ashley Olsen and Donald and Melania Trump.

The New York crowd offered the stars a warm reception, despite the fact that the city was passed over for the world premiere in favour of London.

At the time, organisers were forced to defend the decision, with a spokesperson saying: "It was simply a question of logistics and scheduling."

"Everyone knows New York City is the fifth character. The city is the epicenter of all things 'Sex and the City.'"
