Naomi Campbell faces six months in prison after being charged over police assault

Updated 23:44pm on 29 May 2008

Naomi Campbell faces up to six months in jail after being charged with assaulting two police officers at Heathrow Airport.

The supermodel had to be hauled off a British Airways plane in handcuffs last month after she allegedly lost her temper because her luggage was missing.

She has been charged with six separate offences including three counts of assault on police, two counts of threatening, abusive words or behaviour to cabin crew and one count of disorderly behaviour likely to cause harm or distress.

Charged: Naomi Campbell allegedly attacked a police officer at Heathrow on April 3rd

Wearing a dark suit and sunglasses, Miss Campbell, 38, was chauffeur-driven to Heathrow Police Station yesterday to hear the charges against her.

Her lawyer Simon Nicholls read out a statement on her behalf.

It said: 'Miss Campbell is bitterly disappointed that the prosecutors have advised her she is to be prosecuted for various offences.

'She respects that decision and she hopes this matter is dealt with expeditiously.'

Miss Campbell, who is primarily based in New York, will appear in Uxbridge Magistrates Court in West London on June 20.

The incident took place just minutes before her flight to Los Angeles from Heathrow's troubled new Terminal 5 was due to take off on April 4.

Miss Campbell, who was on her way to appear on a U.S. television show,
allegedly reacted furiously after being told that one of her two bags had not been loaded on the plane.

Police were called and three officers boarded the plane to arrest her.

Reports claimed she was screaming and shouting and lashing out physically and alleged she told BA staff they were 'bloody fools', reducing female workers to tears.

After the incident she claimed she was a figurehead for all passengers affected by the lost baggage fiasco surrounding Terminal 5.

Miss Campbell, who is known for her fiery temper, has been involved in a number of unsavoury incidents since rising to fame at 15.

Six months in prison. Oh please, she's a "celebrity" darling and as such will walk away with a slap on the wrist and maybe a fine. If she was Joe Public and with her track record then yes I would think that she would be looking at a prison term.

It's about time that these so called celebrities were treated like the rest of the population.

About time too!

Horrible woman, if it was Jo Bloggs with that sort of record he would have long since sent down.
