Country Claudia: Supermodel Schiffer makes Suffolk her catwalk

Updated 10:47am on 29 May 2008

Claudia Schiffer added a touch of catwalk glamour at the opening of the Suffolk Show yesterday.

The supermodel turned out in country chic, complete with riding boots and a trilby hat, with her film producer husband Matthew Vaughn and their children, Casper and Clementine, in tow.

She was one of thousands of people descended on Trinity Park in Ipswich for the highlight of the county's social calendar.

Of course she is no stranger to the area - she currently resides in a nearby £5 million mansion.

Her conservative look was a far cry from her latest modeling job, which saw her strip off for the German edition of Vogue magazine, save for a pair of briefs and a feline mask.

Photographed by esteemed fashion photographer Mario Testino, the 37-year-old appeared on the publication's cover, entitled Sex.

Referring to the racy shoot, Claudia said Testino is "one of the few people I can completely trust - there are no boundaries at all when I'm shooting with him."

Proving her supermodel status is still in tact, she has returned to more high-profile modeling jobs in the last year, after taking time out for motherhood.

She has again teamed up with Karl Lagerfeld, the designer that discovered her, to star in Chanel's advertising campaigns.

The German born star famously declared last year that the new generation of models can no longer achieve the kind of global celebrity she, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford enjoyed in the 1990s.

She said at the time: "In order to become a supermodel one must be on all the covers all over the world at the same time so that people can recognise the girls.

"That is, for now, not possible, not least because the advertising industry is very much taken nowadays by popstars and actresses. Supermodels like we once were don't exist any more."
