If there ever was a time for men to avoid the cinema, this weekend is it.

The Sex And The City film had its UK release last night with many cinemas full to the brim of extremely excited women - and hardly a man to be seen.

Such is the frenzied excitement surrounding the popular TV show’s celluloid offering that cinemas across the UK are booked up for weeks.

Carrie fever: Sex And The City, which stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth, opened in London last night amid much excitement

Every screening of the highly-anticipated film is expected to be sold out across the weekend.

Those lucky enough to see the comedy on its release were raving about it this morning.

One said: 'Ten out of 10. They managed to make a film which not only lived up to, but possibly exceeded, all the hype. It was funnier than expected, too.'

Girls reunited: The film was given a ten out of ten by one happy fan last night

Fan Tracey Blake attended a screening at the Curzon cinema on Chelsea’s King’s Road last night.

She said: 'The foyer was jam-packed, it must have been a sell-out.'

And she said it was even better than she’d hoped. 'It was brilliant, funny, sad, happy. Samantha has some great oneliners and I actually thought it was funnier than the series. All the women looked incredible and the audience was clapping and cheering at the end.'

An Odeon spokesman said 17,000 viewers saw Sex And The City at the chain’s cinemas yesterday in London alone.

He added: 'There are still some tickets available but they are selling very fast. We’d advise people to book as soon as possible as they will soon sell out.'

If your a single man, and I'm not, I would be going to this movie! Imagine how many woman you could meet that are in love with the idea of "being in love". Just buy them a couple of cosmo's and you will be "dating" all summer. Brilliant

- David, Atlanta, GA

I like those odds!

- Troll, US

Wow! I didnt realize there were that many trailer parks in in the UK.

- Happycrab, Bakersfield CA

It is sad to see that there are so many shallow and disconnected people in the world that flock to to the cinemas and squander their money on trash like this. I guess a fool and his or her money are soon parted.

- Nelson, McAllen, Texas

I am appalled and aghast that women are lining up to see this movie that debases the definition of "women." Why are we celebrating this type of behaviour? Women of America and UK, have some self-respect and boycott this movie. I would be embarrassed to tell my daughter or anyone for that matter that I saw this movie.

- Angel, New York, USA

Why would I not want to be in the same theatre with hundreds of emotionally-charged women? I think guys are missing the boat in not going to this one. Sure beats the crowd at the corner bar.

- Barry, San Francisco, CA

I am woman, hear me roar! Hey, why are you walking away from me? Look you, pay attention to how hot I am in my hot pink whatever and sequenced sparkle bag! What, you dont find me attractive!? Here, what if I show some leg - oh now your paying attention, ok let me tell you about the world and why I'm awsome! Why are you walking way again....!?

- Hot Donnah, Seattle, WA

Russell was there! There's one guy.

- Nim, New York, New York

Honestly... some people do not have very much to do.

- Docchuck, Maryland, USA

As an American I am ashamed and embarrassed that this film was made. I pray that it's a huge failure.

- Kevin, College Station, TX, USA

Dumb and Dumber 2

- Donald, Abilene,TX

I'm a woman and I plan to avoid Sex And The City. Explosions and shoot 'em ups are so much more fun. I'm being serious here!

- Michelle, Fort Worth, TX

Cap, I couldn't say it better. I might not have been so polite with my words though...

- Dave, San Diego, CA USA

This is the real "Dumb and Dumber"

- Gerry, Los Angeles CA

I'm sorry. Crass women that sleep around are not that interesting or appealing to men. You start thinking that they're gross and not-so-clean. Men like clean women.

- Cap, Kalamazoo, MI USA

Oh, come on, George. I agree with you it's trash, but speaking as a man, our group has watched a few trashy films in our time, haven't we?
High end Soap Opera, isn't it?

- Ek, Chicago, USA

Sex and Stupidity

- Lark, Washington, DC

The whole series, and now the movie, is an embarrassment to all New Yorkers and Americans. Of course no men would be seen at this movie, just like no men watched the series, because its pathetic. It is obvious the women who want to emulate the actresses in this show must be materialistic, shallow, and low self esteem...YEA, you go girl!

- Louis, Manhattan, NYC

Lots of ladies are looking forward to going and I hope it's a good show and turnout. Happy women can lead to happy men.

- Deuce, Oklahoma City, USA

As an American, I apologize for Devinevision. Saying such unkind things about all Europeans is simply ignorant. If he had limited his perjoratives to the French, then I would be applauding.

- Jcduxx, Montpelier, VA USA

What's the problem here. 4 reasonably decent looking women making a movie about themselves and people are pulling out their hair. Would you rather have a movie about 4 reasonably decent looking women in a burkha screaming about their home life?

Just be a man and sit it out with your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend and get it over with. In return you might get lucky with your significant other. And then you can go see Ironman 2.

Besides the television show was not that bad. The 5th character in the movie almost always goes unmentioned. ou get a chance to see the most amazing city in the world, New York.

- Subrot0, bombay, india

I sincerely thought women had more depth than this. My mistake!

- George, Washington, DC

It's like the female version of Star Wars.

- David, Toronto, Canada

Real mean don't act like wusses when it comes to a movie like this. The hot women I know are are all very happy that their boyfriends, fiancées & husbands are going to see this with them, without all the whining some men are doing about the movie. We've all been joking that our men have one track minds, and they get plenty of what they want, because they're not sitting around complaining about what they assume they're too manly in regards to this movie, or other things in general. Something to learn from guys.

- Jes, Texas, USA

You guys are idiots. I'm a man (fully masculated, thank you) and I watch this show with my wife. Hot girls, hot extras, nudity, sex and foul language. What's not to like? Are you gay? Are you offended? Go watch Larry the Cable guy or Mr. Bean...sounds more like your speed.

- David, KY, USA

No dudes in their right mind will see this. For that matter... all the women I know bash the hell out of this show at every opportunity. Who the hell are these masses they keep talking about?

- Scott, New York, USA

As an American I would like to apologize for the damage our entertainment media has done to the most essential element to the successful continuation of the human race. The more women act like the characters in this film the less responsible men prepared to take on the rigors of fatherhood want anything to do with them. Like the audience statistics the only men those women can hope for are homosexuals and wolves out for a quickie. Pretty soon the traditional family with mom and dad and kids will become rare. Children will be mere inconveniences to be aborted and limited in number. Cultures that do not buy into the "fun" will procreate naturally and eventually take over. Oh...wait...that sound just like Europe. Sorry.

- Devinevision, USA

Bring on Rambo 6

- Scotty T, Columbia SC USA

I feel sorry for the women who want to emulate the sad and pathetic lifestyle of these over the hill deluded egomaniacs. You know how you used to mock the old guy in the club, well the guys were goofing on these broads. Why middle aged suburban house wives wax nostalgic about a "fabulous" rich snob lifestyle that most New Yorkers don't live is beyond me. Get yourself a gay friend, drink your cosmos and spend obnoxious amounts of money on shoes and entertainment and think that no man deserves you while obsessing over being old and alone. Congratulations! You're living the Sex in the City lifestyle!

- Dean, PA-USA

I would only go for the intellectual dialogue and never gawk at the ladies! Yeah right!

- Art, Hendersonville, USA

“No “Men” in sight”, as if that should be a concern. These phony excuses for Glam’s can fondle each other all they want, but don’t expect the men of the world who have yet to be neutered to really care a rat’s rear end about this pile waste.

- Boomer, USA

This film is an absolute estrogen-fest with no appeal to men. Any male that goes to see this production has obviously surrendered the privilege of being called a man and must check his ******** at the door. Personally, I will be waiting for "Kung-Fu Mutant Zombie Warriors From Hell".

- Skepticus, London, UK

Any man who would be such a sissy as to want to go to this film is not really a man at all and should be publicly mocked.

- Scot, Ukiah, ca

There may not have been any men but there was plenty of facial hair.

- Nigel Blake, Essex, UK

I think I m going stag to see this movie to pick up some lonely chicks.

- James, NC-USA

Yes Cassandra, but they were all gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

- Cj, USA

Cassandra, those 10 guys you saw sitting by themselves at the premier were probably movie critics, or more likely, homosexuals looking for fashion and grooming tips. I don't know any straight man who pay money to see that movie unless he was forced to by his wife/significant other.

Men curse SATC for what it has done to women and male-female relationships over the last half-decade. If Comedy Central's "The Man Show" was ever made into a film, you probably wouldn't see women in the audience for the same reasons.

- Serge, UK

I don't know about the UK, but here in the US there are more gay followers of SnC than women. Ok maybe not more but close.

- John, USA

I'd rather roll around in broken glass and be doused with vinegar than put myself through viewing this abomination.

As would just about every male I mentioned this movie to.

- Matt Manson, Edinburgh, scotland

Of course no men - it has long been know and discussed that this is a story about women in NY based on gay men lifestyle in NY. So - why would any man want to see this film unless they were gay? Not a bashing of Gay men but more to the reason as to why there were not a large number of men at the opening.

- Mike, USA - DC

What do you mean not a man in sight? I went to watch the fab ladies last night and much to my surprise there were at least 10 guys in there that were by themselves and more there with their ladies.

- Cassandra, UK
