Not a man to be seen as Sex And The City mania strikes Britain
Updated 19:50pm on 29 May 2008
If there ever was a time for men to avoid the cinema, this weekend is it.
The Sex And The City film had its UK release last night with many cinemas full to the brim of extremely excited women - and hardly a man to be seen.
Such is the frenzied excitement surrounding the popular TV show’s celluloid offering that cinemas across the UK are booked up for weeks.
Carrie fever: Sex And The City, which stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth, opened in London last night amid much excitement
Every screening of the highly-anticipated film is expected to be sold out across the weekend.
Those lucky enough to see the comedy on its release were raving about it this morning.
One said: 'Ten out of 10. They managed to make a film which not only lived up to, but possibly exceeded, all the hype. It was funnier than expected, too.'
Girls reunited: The film was given a ten out of ten by one happy fan last night
Fan Tracey Blake attended a screening at the Curzon cinema on Chelsea’s King’s Road last night.
She said: 'The foyer was jam-packed, it must have been a sell-out.'
And she said it was even better than she’d hoped. 'It was brilliant, funny, sad, happy. Samantha has some great oneliners and I actually thought it was funnier than the series. All the women looked incredible and the audience was clapping and cheering at the end.'
An Odeon spokesman said 17,000 viewers saw Sex And The City at the chain’s cinemas yesterday in London alone.
He added: 'There are still some tickets available but they are selling very fast. We’d advise people to book as soon as possible as they will soon sell out.'

Huge fanbase: Screaming female fans at the world premiere of the film in London earlier this month

If your a single man, and I'm not, I would be going to this movie! Imagine how many woman you could meet that are in love with the idea of "being in love". Just buy them a couple of cosmo's and you will be "dating" all summer. Brilliant

It is sad to see that there are so many shallow and disconnected people in the world that flock to to the cinemas and squander their money on trash like this. I guess a fool and his or her money are soon parted.

I am appalled and aghast that women are lining up to see this movie that debases the definition of "women." Why are we celebrating this type of behaviour? Women of America and UK, have some self-respect and boycott this movie. I would be embarrassed to tell my daughter or anyone for that matter that I saw this movie.

Why would I not want to be in the same theatre with hundreds of emotionally-charged women? I think guys are missing the boat in not going to this one. Sure beats the crowd at the corner bar.

Here, what if I show some leg - oh now your paying attention, ok let me tell you about the world and why I'm awsome! Why are you walking way again....!?

The whole series, and now the movie, is an embarrassment to all New Yorkers and Americans. Of course no men would be seen at this movie, just like no men watched the series, because its pathetic. It is obvious the women who want to emulate the actresses in this show must be materialistic, shallow, and low self esteem...YEA, you go girl!

What's the problem here. 4 reasonably decent looking women making a movie about themselves and people are pulling out their hair. Would you rather have a movie about 4 reasonably decent looking women in a burkha screaming about their home life?
Just be a man and sit it out with your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend and get it over with. In return you might get lucky with your significant other. And then you can go see Ironman 2.
Besides the television show was not that bad. The 5th character in the movie almost always goes unmentioned. ou get a chance to see the most amazing city in the world, New York.

Real mean don't act like wusses when it comes to a movie like this. The hot women I know are are all very happy that their boyfriends, fiancées & husbands are going to see this with them, without all the whining some men are doing about the movie. We've all been joking that our men have one track minds, and they get plenty of what they want, because they're not sitting around complaining about what they assume they're too manly in regards to this movie, or other things in general. Something to learn from guys.

As an American I would like to apologize for the damage our entertainment media has done to the most essential element to the successful continuation of the human race. The more women act like the characters in this film the less responsible men prepared to take on the rigors of fatherhood want anything to do with them. Like the audience statistics the only men those women can hope for are homosexuals and wolves out for a quickie. Pretty soon the traditional family with mom and dad and kids will become rare. Children will be mere inconveniences to be aborted and limited in number. Cultures that do not buy into the "fun" will procreate naturally and eventually take over. Oh...wait...that sound just like Europe. Sorry.

I feel sorry for the women who want to emulate the sad and pathetic lifestyle of these over the hill deluded egomaniacs. You know how you used to mock the old guy in the club, well the guys were goofing on these broads. Why middle aged suburban house wives wax nostalgic about a "fabulous" rich snob lifestyle that most New Yorkers don't live is beyond me. Get yourself a gay friend, drink your cosmos and spend obnoxious amounts of money on shoes and entertainment and think that no man deserves you while obsessing over being old and alone. Congratulations! You're living the Sex in the City lifestyle!

“No “Men” in sight”, as if that should be a concern. These phony excuses for Glam’s can fondle each other all they want, but don’t expect the men of the world who have yet to be neutered to really care a rat’s rear end about this pile waste.

This film is an absolute estrogen-fest with no appeal to men. Any male that goes to see this production has obviously surrendered the privilege of being called a man and must check his bollocks at the door. Personally, I will be waiting for "Kung-Fu Mutant Zombie Warriors From Hell".

Cassandra, those 10 guys you saw sitting by themselves at the premier were probably movie critics, or more likely, homosexuals looking for fashion and grooming tips. I don't know any straight man who pay money to see that movie unless he was forced to by his wife/significant other.
Men curse SATC for what it has done to women and male-female relationships over the last half-decade. If Comedy Central's "The Man Show" was ever made into a film, you probably wouldn't see women in the audience for the same reasons.

Of course no men - it has long been know and discussed that this is a story about women in NY based on gay men lifestyle in NY. So - why would any man want to see this film unless they were gay? Not a bashing of Gay men but more to the reason as to why there were not a large number of men at the opening.
