Sex and the City backlash continues as street artist 'decapitates' Carrie

Updated 18:41pm on 30 May 2008

The Sex And The City backslash took a new turn today as a poster for the highly-anticipated movie was vandalised in London.

The head of star Sarah Jessica Parker - who plays Carrie Bradshaw - was removed from the billboard in a move thought to be the work of street artist The Decapitator.

The unknown artist has been taking the heads off celebrities on billboards and posters around London. His previous victims include singers Robyn and David Essex, The Colonel of KFC, and the High School Musical kids.

However his latest work is likely to hit a sour note, as the relentless promotional blitz surrounding the movie continues to grate on members of the public.

The latest issue of New York's Time Out magazine, which has a reputation for capturing the city's zeitgeist, contained a cover image of Sarah Jessica Parker and co's mouths all taped up under the strap line "No Sex!", declaring "Enough already - we love 'em, but it's just too much."

And the latest issue of New York Press magazine pictures all four women dumped in bins with only their legs visible.

But the negative press is likely to have little effect on the success off the movie, which was released in the UK on Wednesday amid scenes of hysteria.

It’s expected to leap to the top of the charts and there is even talk of a sequel.
