007 girl Rosamund Pike cancels her wedding

Updated 17:32pm on 1 Jun 2008

Bond actress Rosamund Pike has suddenly cancelled her wedding to movie director Joe Wright.

The 29-year-old star was due to marry last month but the wedding was called off at the last minute after Miss Pike told friends she couldn't go through with it.

According to friends, the actress is devastated about the split and cancellation.

Wright, 35, proposed on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy earlier this year and the wedding was to have taken place in England last weekend.

Called off: Rosamund Pike was due to marry director Joe Wright last month

My source says: 'It's not common knowledge and only a few people know. Rosamund obviously wants to keep it as private as possible but she is devastated. She's a lovely girl and we all feel very sorry for her.

'She was meant to be out at a party on Thursday night but she cancelled at the last minute. She just couldn't face going out.'

Rosamund's mother, who had been planning the wedding, has been consoling her daughter and cancelling florists and cake orders.

Meanwhile, Wright has been hitting the London party scene. 'Joe was out four weeks ago at a party. He was surrounded by girls and ended up taking a group of them to a strip club. He's a regular there and all the dancers know him,' says my scantily clad spy.

'We all know Joe well. He bought a house in the East End, which was meant to be his and Ros's marital home but he's living there alone now and it's very much the bachelor pad.'

Rosamund, who became a household name as Miranda Frost in Die Another Day, met Joe while filming the 2005 screen adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, which he directed.

At the time Rosamund was dating her co-star Simon Woods, but she fell for Wright. The Atonement director proposed at Como en route to the Venice Film Festival last September.

I'm probably just a prudish American but being a regular at a strip club and knowing all of the dancers is not going to put me in a position to be any lady's Mr. Wright, right? If that's part of the reason for the breakup then kudos to Rosamund for cutting the ties. Hopefully she knows how blessed her life is and will take the appropriate time she feels she needs to mourn the loss of this relationship. I wish the lady the best in the future and hope she finds the family she is looking for.
