Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson revealed he defied doctors - who have warned him his breakdancing routines risk crippling him for life - to perform his winning dance on Saturday's triumphant finale.

The 14-year-old from Warrington told the Sun he defied doctor's orders to perform in Saturday night's live final of the nationwide talent show.

He told the newspaper he suffered from a rare condition called Scheuermann's disease, a curvature of the spine that hits fast-growing teenagers.

His show-winning Singing in the Rain performance ends with a flip which sees him slam to the floor on his back.

His mother Lesley 39, said: 'The doctors have said it's not great for him to be breakdancing, especially landing so hard on his back'.

Too risky: Doctors have warned George that his breakdancing could leave him permanently disabled

The condition left him blind in one eye for two months before Christmas and doctors had warned him he should stop his beloved breakdancing in case it left him permanently disabled.

He told the Sun: "The eye was all inflamed. I'd been using Deep Heat for my sore back, so at first I just thought I'd got it in my eye.

'But I ended up blind. The spinal nerves were trapped and it affected my optic nerves.

'I lost all my co-ordination and it was really hard to dance, as I didn't have my balance. I kept bumping into everything.'

He says he now has to be rushed to hospital if his eye becomes sore - the first sign that he needs urgent treatment.

George put in a slick performance to Singing In The Rain, winning plaudits from the judges and the most phone votes from the watching public.

In so doing he won £100,000 and the opportunity to appear in front of the Prince of Wales at the Royal Variety Performance.

He has also faced cruel taunts about the dancing that has been his passion since the age of six.

George said: "Kids called me a beggar for busking. I've also been called poof, faggot, queer, little girl. But now I just think, 'I'm the one on TV, not you'."

The surprise winner of ITV's Britain's Got Talent has big plans.

Among them is paying off his devoted single mother's mortgage, buying a Volkswagen camper van and a summer house for his garden.

He also plans to patch up his relationship with the father he rarely sees.

Mr Sampson, 40, who watched George's performance on television said: 'I'm thrilled for George. I knew in my heart he would win. I shed a few tears.

'My head was spinning and I had to go outside for some fresh air. It was difficult, not being with George, but all the neighbours came out and congratulated and consoled me.'

Mr Sampson's mother Joyce said: 'George texted his dad before the final saying that when this was over he was coming to see him. That is great.'

His performance helped Britain's Got Talent to win about twice as many viewers as BBC1's Oliver! talent contest I'd Do Anything.

The ITV show peaked at 14.4million viewers during the final results show.

George confounded all the predictions after his breakdancing update of Gene Kelly's Singin' in the Rain routine won him most votes.
