Alex Curran was looking far from her usual svelte self as she sunned herself alongside footballer husband Steven Gerrard after snubbing Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin's WAG wedding of the year.

Sporting trendy oversized sunglasses and a gunmetal grey bikini, the 25-year-old let it all hang out and appeared to be carrying some extra weight around her stomach.

But the mother of two looked as though she had she hadn't a care in the world as she chatted away on her mobile phone and whilst smoking cigarettes and drinking by the pool.

The couple's no-show at Wayne and Coleen's over-hyped nuptials has caused eyebrows to be raised.

But clearly Alex had more chance of topping up her tan in Miami, than in the monsoon-like conditions being endured at the wedding of their pals in Italy.

Alex and Liverpool star Gerrard opted to chill out on a sun-drenched beach in Miami with four friends while Wayne and Coleen tied the knot in a rain-soaked Portofino yesterday.

The pair lounged on sunbeds, with the footballer drinking beer with his wife on the traditional post-Premier League season hols.

But the couple's absence from the WAG wedding of the year in  has come as a shock to friends.

One source said: "Everyone would expect Steven and Alex to be there on Wayne and Coleen's big day.

"Tongues are bound to wag about whether they've fallen out over it."

Gerrard and Curran's surprise decision came despite Wayne and Coleen being present at their own high-profile wedding last year.

Gerrard and Curran arrived in the US with four friends yesterday. And when reporters asked why they were missing the £5million bash, Curran refused to answer and instead turned away.

Gerrard, 28, was also not in the mood for answering questions and at one point was seen pushing away a photographers' lens.

After arriving at Miami International Airport, the group of three men and three women boarded a black minibus before being whisked away to a luxury South Beach hotel.

The group are staying at the chic £400-a-night Delano hotel.

Meanwhile, Rooney is whisking his new wife off to Sardinia to continue their nuptials on a £75,000-a-day yacht they have hired out until next week.
