Hello baldness my old friend: Art Garfunkel loses his trademark afro

Updated 18:38pm on 13 Jun 2008

He was almost as famous for his halo of blond curls as he was for his angelic voice.

But while his dulcet tones are still going strong, Art Garfunkel appears to have lost a remarkable battle to keep hold of his second most famous feature.

Just a year ago, the 66-year-old singer was still sporting a lush head of hair when he made an appearance at Hyde Park in London.

But as he arrived at an award dinner in Los Angeles on Thursday, he was virtually unrecognisable with a bald pate.

There were still signs of the unruly frizz that adorns most of his album covers. However, there is more than a hint of grey around the star's temples.

And the astonishing rate at which it has disappeared have left fans wondering if he has enlisted the help of a hairpiece in recent years.

Garfunkel is most famous for his partnership with songwriter Paul Simon and the pair have sold more than 40million records since they first got together in 1963.

He may have lost his hair but Art Garfunkel still has a lovely smile and a beautiful voice. I'm looking forward to his concert in Glasgow in October and I`m sure once he starts singing his hair will be the last thing on my mind.
