The copycut: Now everyone wants to do a shaggy Aggy

Updated 22:10pm on 17 Jun 2008

Supermodel's peroxide crop is this year's hot look

Agyness Deyn's white blonde crop, nicknamed The Aggy, was originally created for a fashion shoot

Her peroxide crop has always been a headturning look.

The only problem is that Agyness Deyn is no longer the only one basking in the attention.

With the likes of Pixie Geldof and Kimberly Stewart also sporting the cut, her once stand-out style is in danger of becoming a little, dare we say, ubiquitous.

According to New York hair stylist Sam McKnight, who created the look for supermodel Agyness Deyn two years ago, it's this decades "Rachel", the layered cut popularised by Friends' actress Jennifer Aniston in the Nineties.

The Aggy is more challenging than the Rachel, but a steady trickle to the salons is fast becoming a stampede.

Richard Thompson, international creative director for the Mahogany salon group, said: "We're probably doing a dozen of the cuts a day and at least two or three in white blonde."

Deyn's career-boosting cut was styled for a Mario Testino shoot. McKnight said: "Mario and I saw Agyness with her shoulder-length. slightly scraggy hair and thought she needed a sharper look. I cut it that day and bleached it the next and Agyness just ran with it. She
hasn't looked back.

And me: Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud

"It was the first time in years that someone in the public eye had had such a radical haircut and Agyness's flout and androgyny made it fashionable. Her hair even changed the silhouette of the clothes she wore on the runway. It's a classic rebel haircut and if you've got the nerve to actually do it you can probably pull it off. "

Mr Thompson said: "there are so many variations - a heavier fringe, croppier, smoother, sophisticated - it can suit all shapes of face and remain unique."

Pip Hanks, 20, a model from Woking said: "I asked the stylist for "an Agyness" about a week ago. I have dark eyebrows, just like her, so it looks really good."

Katie Clifford, 23, a PR from Clapham, said: "I have always really liked short, cropped hair. Agyness has made it more achievable - before I would feel a bit extreme.

Brunette Alexa von Hirschberg, 24, who works for Bloomsbury publishers, let Mahogany give her The Aggy - with startling effect.

She said: "The result was a shock at first but now I absolutely love it. It feels fresh and confident and while my friends tend to spend the first ten minutes staring, they all love it too, including my boyfriend who thinks it's "nice and punky". I've always hated the straggly blonde hair that Kate Moss works so I'm thrilled to have such a cutting-edge haircut.

Miss Deyn, whose real name is Laura Hollins, is the face of Burberry.

She worked at a fish and chip shop in Ramsbottom, near Manchester before moving to London where she was named model of the year in 2007.
