Gary Lineker is certainly keeping busy.

Not content with hosting duties at Euro 2008 in Switzerland, Lineker returned to Britain to escort his stunning model girlfriend Danielle Bux to a breezy Royal Ascot today.

Danielle, dressed in royal purple, managed to stay on the right side of the stringent dress code which has been revised for this year's event, as she opted for a demure knee-length cocktail dress.

But she couldn't quite resist the pull of the plunging neckline, but thankfully it was less than revealing.

Meanwhile, Match Of The Day host Gary looked suitably attired in a morning suit and top hat - ready for the Royal Enclosure.

But while Danielle and Lineker looked supremely unruffled, it was almost a case of hats off at day two of the annual race meeting as the race-going fillies struggled to keep their headwear on as the breeze picked up.

Despite the drizzle stopping and the odd glimmer of sunshine, strong gusts of wind were hampering punters.

Even the Queen struggled to keep her hat firmly in place as she arrived in the horse-drawn carriage. Sitting alongside Prince Philip, the 82-year-old monarch wore regal purple. A lilac bouclet coat and black gloves kept out the chill as Queen Elizabeth waved to onlookers.

As for Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall opted for a collarless, aquamarine dress suit and matching hat with cream accessories, including an umbrella she clutched at all times.

In contrast to yesterday's understated look, Sophie Wessex wore an eye-catching silver headpiece made up of intricately woven material as she cheered from the Royal box.

Hats away: One lady has lost her hat in the breeze at today's Royal Ascot

Gaynor Voupe, from Stratford-upon-Avon, who was attending with husband Edward, just managed to grab her huge cream hat before it was blown off her head.

She said: 'We will not let the weather affect our enjoyment.

'We love the racing and will enjoy the day whatever the weather.

Another race-goer, Julie-Ann Quartey , 22, from London, was also battling against the elements.

She said she was disappointed at the lack of sunshine but said: 'It's our first time here, and we are just going to have a good time.'

Ms Quartey was spending the day with friend Satna Arora, 25, also from North London.

Friends Rachel Bricio, 42, and Joanna Moriel, 28, both came all the way from their native Holland especially for the horse racing and hoped their special day out would not be ruined by the gusty conditions.

Mrs Bricio said: 'It's our first visit to Ascot, it's going to be a great day, we're just hoping one thing - please no rain.'

Sarah Neely, 21, was at the Berkshire racecourse with 23-year-old boyfriend Dan Attfield.

Birmingham girl Ms Neely fought to keep her pretty pink hat on her head as she sat having a drink at one of the lawn bars.

'We've got our umbrella with us, so we will enjoy the day, whatever the weather.'

Sitting at a table in front of the young couple was Sue Sargent, who similiar trouble trying to ensure her head attire stayed in place.

Mrs Sargent, aged in her fifties, from Wem, Shrops., said: 'I come every year, come rain or shine.'
