Actor and singer Darren Day has been charged with drink driving, police confirmed today.

The 39-year-old was pulled over by officers in Cardiff city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Day was taken into custody before being released on bail.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: 'A 39-year-old man was arrested in Custom House Street at around 2am yesterday.

Changed man: Day, who has been arrested for drink driving, previously said that he had turned over a new leaf after marrying wife Stephanie Dooley a year ago

'He was arrested and charged with drink driving offences and was bailed to appear before Cardiff magistrates on July 2.'

Day, known for his colourful love life, is appearing as Cornelius Hackl in a production of Hello, Dolly! at the city's New Theatre alongside former EastEnders star Anita Dobson.

The run started on Monday and finishes on Saturday.

Day was called a 'love rat' after dumping girlfriends including Anna Friel, Isla Fisher and Dancing on Ice star Suzanne Shaw, with whom he has a son, Corey.

Earlier this month, he told the Western Mail he had turned over a new leaf after marrying wife Stephanie a year ago, saying: 'Life's very different for me now to what it was.

'I've landed on my feet really. I married this wonderful lady and it's changed my life.

'She's pretty much 100 per cent responsible for changing my life around and my children have been inspirational too - life's fantastic.'

Referring to past struggles in his life, including an addiction to cocaine and becoming bankrupt, Day told the newspaper: 'It's all in the past now, thank God. I lived beyond my means for a few years but it's all sorted now.'

Day turns 40 next month and was planning to renew his wedding vows at Graceland as part of his celebrations. He has a daughter, Madison, with Stephanie.
