Back to work: Auntie Britney returns to LA

Updated 21:27pm on 21 Jun 2008

After a short visit to Louisiana to welcome the latest member of the Spears' clan, Britney has arrived back in LA to get on with patching up her career.

Accompanied by father and omnipresent chaperon Jamie, the 26-year-old touched down in Los Angeles international airport yesterday following the birth of her first niece.

Britney Spears arrives back in LA after two days off to meet her new niece

Wearing a sartorially curious combination of pink Ugg Boots and a printed blue dress, the star smiled at fans as she was marched through the terminal by her entourage.

And despite becoming a grandfather again, Jamie looked tired and sombre.

The pair had flew to their southern hometown Kentwood to support 17-year-old daughter and sister Jamie Lynn as she gave birth to her first child Maddie Briann.

Britney arrived one day ahead of the birth to be by her sister's side in the crucial hours before she went into labor.

Say cheese: Britney smiles for the cameras but Jamie remains stony-faced

But being on the road to what is touted to be a spectacular comeback, she could not stay away from Hollywood for too long.

The star is reportedly in the midst of recording a new album and has been seen working out and dancing again after months of turmoil.

And while the rumour mill is still in churning over whether or not she is pregnant Britney's representatives have insisted her swollen stomach is a result of medication.

Only time will tell what the Spears' family are planning to surprise us with next.
