Little Britain star Matt Lucas and ex Kevin McGee had a sombre reunion at a North London cafe just a week after announcing their 'divorce'.

The couple were seen walking their Labrador before stopping off to a drink and a seemingly in depth conversation. Neither were wearing wedding rings.

While Lucas, 33, did his best to put on a brave face, at one point he did appear to wiping away tears with a tissue.

The split is the first celebrity gay 'divorce' since the law was changed to allow same-sex ceremonies in December 2005.

The couple underwent a civil partnership 18 months ago, which means that Kevin McGee can by law expect a large chunk of the comedian's estimated £15 million fortune.

They married in a star-studded pantomime-themed ceremony in 2006 at London private members' club Home House.

Guests included Courtney Love who came as the Queen of Hearts, and Sir Elton John who dressed as Captain Hook. Lucas, whose elaborate characters and costumes are a feature of his Little Britain show, didn't disappoint in an exotic Aladdin costume, while McGee dressed as Prince Charming.

Friends told the Mail the couple, who shared a £1.5 million home in St John's Wood, North-West London, had grown apart and 'fallen out of love' against a background of Lucas' rising fame in Britain and America.

Lucas has employed Mishcon de Reya, the same solicitors used by Heather Mills in her divorce from Paul McCartney, and by Princess Diana.

One legal source said  that 31-year-old McGee should expect a house, a period of financial maintenance and substantial lump sum considering they co-habited for much of the four years they were together before the civil union - and also considering the TV producer supported Lucas as his career was taking off.

It is not known whether Lucas and McGee signed a 'pre-civil partnership agreement' - the equivalent of a pre-nup - to secure Lucas's burgeoning fortune.
